BLACK NATIVITY Free Community Choir & Dance Workshop to Return at Intiman Theatre
Music director Sam L. Townsend, Jr. and choreographer Vania C. Bynum will lead the session at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute.
Intiman Theatre announces a Community Choir & Dance Workshop with Rev. Sam L. Townsend, Jr. and choreographer Vania C. Bynum at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute on Saturday, July 11, from 2:00–5:00 PM. Free for Everyone tickets are available for this special event, returning for its second year. The workshop is part of Intiman's Night School program, which offers continuing education opportunities that integrate the arts into the daily lives of Seattle communities.
Participants may choose between two simultaneous workshops inspired by Intiman's annual production of Black Nativity. In the main auditorium, Townsend, Jr., Music Director of Black Nativity, will lead a community choir workshop exploring the foundations of gospel music through songs from the production, joined by members of the show's choir and band. Downstairs, Bynum will lead a movement workshop introducing participants to the dance styles and choreography featured in the production.
Singers and dancers of all levels, ages, races, and backgrounds are welcome. Participants are invited to discover the magic, movement, and music of this beloved holiday tradition in a fun, supportive community setting before Black Nativity returns to the stage later this year, playing December 10-27, 2026.
