LANDSFRAU هموطن is an autofictional performance blending music, choreography and poetry, created and performed by German-Afghan actress Mariann Yar. The piece follows Ariana, a woman in the diaspora grappling with the 2021 Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, tracing her reckoning with war, memory, and identity back to the televised reporting of 9/11. Afghan folk music collides with electronic beats, Attan meets contemporary dance, and biographical episodes slide into stories of nostalgia and fantasy as Ariana confronts the weight of her cultural heritage. The work is directed by Leonard Dick and Mariann Yar, with music by Andrej Agranovski and Mariann Yar, and choreography by Paul Calderone.
