New Tramway Season Brings a Dazzling Range of Dance to Glasgow

The new season at Tramway presents a dazzling range of contemporary visual art, installations, dance and theatre by internationally acclaimed and emerging artists.

The UK premiere of Nomanslanding will take audiences on a unique journey through Tramway's main theatre space. Audiences will enter a seven metre high structure, that reaches 20 metres from end to end as the journey unfolds. The structure will be a space for listening, contemplation and performance.

Nomanslanding has been created through collaboration between five International Artists - Glasgow-basEd Graham Eatough, Australian artists Robyn Backen Nigel Helyer and Jennifer Turpin and Dutch artist, Andre Dekker. The work opens in Tramway 1 on Wednesday 21 June.

A programme of participation events will accompany Nomanslanding, including Sculptural and Soundscape Masterclasses, and a panel discussion with the artists and curators behind the work.

Synopsis, a major new electroacoustic installation by German composer and artist Florian Hecker, opens on Friday 26 May in Tramway 2. Informed by the technical manipulation of sound, Hecker's pieces produce rich subjective sensory experiences. In this new work, which was commissioned for Tramway, Hecker's continues his explorations into the dramatization of digital sound, using algorithms to create an immersive spatial composition.

Running from Friday 21 April to Sunday 21 May, Dance International Glasgow (DIG) will feature a stunning range of contemporary dance from some of today's most exciting choreographers, directors and companies, performed at Tramway and off-site in Glasgow.

The first solo exhibition in Scotland by American artist Tschabalala Self opens in Tramway 5 on Saturday 3 June. Her bold, confident and vibrant paintings and works on paper are primarily concerned with the concept of the Black female body within contemporary culture.

Chew and Spit is a new solo exhibition by Glasgow-based artist Beatrice Loft Schulz opening in Tramway 5 on Friday 7 April. Selected to present this work through the new Tramway Open opportunity, which called for proposals from emerging artists, Schulz employs craft, artifice, and deception to neutralise the power of the gallery space.

Tramway's popular Take Part programme is once again at the heart of the new season with a series of creative drop in sessions for all ages and workshops for those aged 16+ inspired by the installations and exhibitions running over the summer.

The Net Effect youth arts group meets weekly at Tramway, and welcomes young people aged 14-25 who would like to be involved with the Glasgow art scene, and create new artworks in Tramway's visual art studio.

Junction 25, the award winning performance company of young people aged 11 - 18 based at Tramway, present their new show, Deadline, in Tramway 4 from Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 June.

On Wednesday 2 August in Tramway 1, the National Dance Organisation for children and young people in Scotland, YDance, present Project Y, their annual showcase performance featuring 24 young dancers who will have worked with top professional choreographers to bring new work to the stage.
