Milk Presents to Bring SELF SERVICE to Edinburgh Fringe, Aug 2-23

By:
Milk Presents/Escalator East to Edinburgh present SELF SERVICE at Edinburgh Fringe 2014.

Milk Presents take a wild stab at defining the indefinable in a show that spans decades of popular culture, political upheaval and quaint normalness. Milk Presents: Self Service episodically and sporadically leads the audience on a punk style journey through queer in an attempt to see what 'normal' really is when it comes to gender, sexuality and beyond. Self Service calls into question the way we live our lives and things we take for granted.

Ann Widdecombe, Madonna and the beatnik generation are thrust together in this theatrical feat that celebrates the grey areas of life. With original live music, hand crafted animation and tacky politics Milk Presents joyously negotiate what it means to be normal... or other - well, human.

Milk Presents: Self Service is a show that gets straight to heart of it all, asking what are the rules in life and who made those rules up anyway? The company have always explored the portrayal of gender and sexuality but now confront important politics head on, using essential aids like gold lycra, platinum blonde hair and extravagant eyelashes. The three members of Milk Presents, (Lucy Doherty, Adam Robertson and Ruby Glaskin), playfully critique their airbrushed world, celebrating their mistakes as much as their triumphs.

Milk Presents have a track record of creating innovative and refreshing performance with something to say about the world. Since 2010 their work has toured nationally and internationally as the young trio established themselves as pioneers in DIY theatre making, pedal powering fairytale endings on golden tandems and dissecting modern masculinity with hand operated pulleys and bubble wrap.

Milk Presents: Self Service was developed at The Point, Eastleigh, The Showroom Chichester, Theatre Poton, Slovakia, New Wolsey Theatre, and is supported by New Wolsey Theatre and Europe Art Touch.

Performed by Pete Aves, Lucy Doherty, Ruby Glaskin and Adam Robertson.

Creative team: Directed by Lucy Doherty; Produced by Ruby Glaskin; Associate Designer Natasha Piper; and Conceived by Milk Presents.

Milk Presents: Self Service has been selected for Escalator East To Edinburgh. Each year Escalator East to Edinburgh helps artists and arts organisations to raise their profile and perform to new audiences as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
