EDINBURGH 2018: Review: PADDINGTON BEAR'S FIRST CONCERT, Underbelly

The orchestra dash on stage, desperately trying to catch their train to London which they miss by seconds. With a forty-five minute wait until the next train, why don't they pass the time performing in the station?

The conductor also serves as the narrator and explains elements of the orchestra to the audience. Each instrument is introduced and silliness ensues as she demonstrates how she can speed them up and slow them down with different movements from her baton.

Paddington's tale begins with him being found at the train station by the Brown family and we are told a bit about his background. The main plot point is that Paddington goes to the Royal Albert Hall for his first concert and as expected- there's chaos.

The show is very interactive which keeps the little ones entertained. There are lots of exciting props to look at plus dances and sing-a-longs. Paddington Bear's First Concert is an excellent introduction to classical musical for children and the storytelling is engaging and well done.

The show runs at 40 minutes instead of the advertised 60. This is a blessing when you have a tightly packed day of shows but perhaps not so much for paying customers.
