EDINBURGH 2018: BWW Q&A- Finding Fassbender

BWW catches up with Lydia Larson to chat about bringing Finding Fassbender to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Finding Fassbender.

Finding Fassbender is about Eve, a thirty something woman from Wolverhampton. She has her life all mapped out: she works in a job she doesn't hate, lives in a nice flat with her cat and long term boyfriend Rich, her family are down the road, and in a couple of years she'll get married and have children. But following the death of a relative Eve questions whether she's living her fullest, most interesting life. A work promotion moves her to the city, and she leaves home for the very first time. But it's not what she was thought it would be and as she's about to pack it in for the comfort of Wolverhampton she receives a letter addressed to a film actor.

What was the inspiration for writing the show?

A letter! About five years ago I was living in a flat in north London. The auditions had dried up and I hadn't worked for a while when a letter arrived and it gave me an idea for a play. I was in my twenties, deeply insecure and still figuring out who I was so didn't feel like I had the confidence or tools to develop it any further. Last year I was working with director Beth Pitts at the fringe and she forwarded me the Vault application. I applied, was offered a work in progress slot so had no choice but to get writing!

Who would you like to come and see Finding Fassbender?

I would love everyone to see Finding Fassbender! At the heart of it is a universal tale about a woman trying to find the thing that connects her to the world, something we can all relate to, I think.

Are there plans for the play beyond the festival?

Not at the moment but we will be discussing its future life very soon!

Are there any other shows you're hoping to see at the Fringe?

Sparks, Fra Welt, F*ck You Pay Me, Duckie, Jessie Cave, Mr Swallow, Sheeps, Kieran

Hodgson, Songlines, Somebody (part of Powerplay).

Finding Fassbender is at Pleasance Courtyard - Pleasance This

August 1st-27th (not 13th)
