Tell us a bit about Carried Away.

Carried Away follows the life of a woman in her mid twenties struggling with the fears of being pregnant after a miscarriage. She has to come to terms with her past in order to commit to the future. Phoebe loves Greenday, Nirvana, karaoke and booze, our scatter-brained and loveable character invites us with her to scans, mum's house, baby boot camp and the gay bar as we see the challenges she is faced with and the grief that never really goes away.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is a great platform for opening up discussion and bringing subjects that are often over looked to the forefront. We want to reach as many people as possible and there is no better place than the fringe.

Why is it important to tell this story?

Because it's not often told. Miscarriage can have a huge impact on a woman's life but it's often an uncomfortable and difficult topic to approach. We were talking about the women we knew effected by miscarriage and from then we decided we wanted to give those women a voice, including women who had experienced it at a young age. There isn't a set way to deal with losing a baby, but we want to affirm that there is still hope after a miscarriage.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

This is a personal subject for the pair of us as both our mothers and several friends have lost babies and we saw how this can effect a woman's life and mental health. We were inspired by their stories and how, even in the darkest times, they were able to carry on, to keep being light hearted when they felt heavy and we have mixed this into our show. We have tried to be as frank and honest as possible, we felt a duty to truthfully represent these women so we didn't want to shy away from anything. We also have made our character Phoebe relatable through comedy, as we think it's important for the audience to not leave solely feeling sad, but uplifted and hopeful.

Who would you recommend comes to see you?

The show is for everyone, because miscarriage effects all genders, whether you are going through it yourself or a partner, parent or friend. We want to make women who are perhaps unaware of the subject understand the experiences of other women, and reassure those who have experienced it that they're not alone and that it is okay to talk and be open.
