BWW speaks to Luke Kempner about his 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show Judi Dench Broke My Heart.
Tell us a bit about Judi Dench Broke My Heart
It's the story of me marrying Judi Dench! But three people object to the wedding. Dun dun duuuuur. I play over 30 celebrity characters who will all help me to find out if Judi is my Dame Right. It's silly, it's fun but there is also a lot of heart in there. I'm getting married this year and there are (believe it or not) some parallels in the show. (Not the objecting! The falling in love bit.)
Can you give us an idea of the impressions we'll see this year?Yes! You will see some new ones like Jeremy Kyle, Louis Thoroux and Frankie Boyle but also some of my favourites like Tom Daley and Andy Murray, who are playing my two best mates in the show.
Which impression is your favourite to do?I think Jeremy Kyle is my favourite. I first got the opportunity to be him in the latest series of Murder In Successville and he was so much fun. I think he's the only man in the world who can help me find out if Judi really did break my heart!
Who would you recommend comes to see Judi Dench Broke My Heart?Anyone really. It's packed with tons of cultural references. Everything from Alan Carr to The Chase. From Sunday Brunch to Notting Hill! There's quite a few references to Les Miserables too, including an extra-special finale...
Are there any other shows you're hoping to see at the festival?Yes, I can't wait to see Iain Stirling, Sooz Kempner, The Birthday Girls, Rhys James, Adam Hess, Lloyd Griffith and Daphne! All LEGENDS.
