BWW speaks to comedian Alex Kealy about his 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show Alex Kealy Is An Idea Whose Time Has Come.

What can you tell us about Alex Kealy Is An Idea Whose Time Has Come?

The prophecy spoke of a 26 year-old comedian and daddy-long-legs-look-a-like named Alex Kealy, and lo he emerged from the flames and did do 55 minutes of hot gags about sex, Brexit and self-hate.

What was the inspiration behind the show?

From slipping on a banana peel to slipping on two banana peels, comedy takes many forms. However, I wanted to break the mould and do an hour-long comedy show without a single banana peel slip, and I think I've done it. #Pioneer #PieOnEarIsMoreTheBananaPeelSchoolOfThought #DontConfusePls

This is your debut show at the Fringe- are you feeling any pressure?

Yes, I am feeling the pressure. To combat this I have a strict daily regime: a breakfast of blueberry porridge, a 30 minute run, paralysing waves of dread for 12 hours then a pre-sleep episode of Fawlty Towers (please, no spoilers).

Who would you recommend comes to see Alex Kealy Is An Idea Whose Time Has Come?

People who want a funny show. People who want a smart show. People who want a show that isn't going to talk down to them, apart from the bit where I call anyone who disagrees with me 'scum'. There's a couple of great videos, too, and "the best use of powerpoint that I have seen for quite a long time", according to a recent reviewer. Are there any other performances you're hoping to catch at the festival? Sam Fletcher. Lovely silly man does fun stuff in new, brill ways each time I see him.
