EDINBURGH 2013- BWW Reviews: MADE FOR EACH OTHER, Sweet Venues Grassmarket, August 3 2013
Made For Each Other is a novel and touching approach to Alzheimer's. Gerry has just proposed to Vincent and Vincent is faced with the decision whether to tell his groom-to-be about his illness.
A one man show with four main characters, John Fico possesses a variety of accents and mannerisms, leading the audience to believe there is actually a full cast on stage. Playing the parts of Gerry's grandfather and Vincent's mother as well as the two lead characters, this is almost exhausting to watch.
At the age of 50, Vincent has finally found his ideal man. The problem is that he is all too aware his recent forgetfulness is actually the beginnings of Alzheimer's. He wonders if he tells his partner whether he will stand by him or call off the wedding.
There are a lot of good ideas in this play and it seemed to be well received. Personally, I could have done without some of the exaggerated camp stereotypes as I felt they let down what was an otherwise strong script.
Made For Each Other runs at Sweet Venues, Grassmarket until August 25th. Timings and ticket information here.
