Citizens Theatre Will Have Relaxed Christmas Performances

By:

The Citizens Theatre continues to demonstrate its commitment to accessibility by hosting Relaxed Performances for its two Christmas shows: A Christmas Carol and Humbug during its residency at Tramway. With support from The National Autistic Society, the company hopes to ensure as many people as possible can enjoy the theatre this Christmas.

Relaxed Performances are open to everyone. They are designed to welcome audience members who would benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere; those with autistic spectrum conditions, sensory and communication disorders, or those feeling anxious about attending the theatre for the first time.

Those attending a Relaxed Performance can still look forward to the high-quality theatre experience and the same welcoming atmosphere the Citizens is well known for. Trained theatre staff will be on hand front of house to greet patrons and offer additional support to those who may need it.

Audience members will be free to come and go as they please from the auditorium, with a dedicated 'chill out zone' available for those who require a quiet moment. At the beginning of the performance the cast will introduce themselves from the stage and adjustments will be made to sound and lighting effects during the show.

Additional resources, such as a 'visual story guide' which gives detailed information about the venue and performance, will be available in advance from our website.

Building on the success of Relaxed Performances during last year's festive season, these events involve all departments within the theatre: from cast members, the creative team, technicians, to front of house staff, who all work together in order to make for an experience that is as welcoming as possible.

A Relaxed Performance of A Christmas Carol will take place on Thu 13 Dec at 7pm.

A Relaxed Performance of Humbug, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's show for 3-6 year olds in Tramway 4, will take place on Fri 21 Dec at 1.30pm

"We are delighted to continue to offer festive Relaxed Performances whilst presenting work at Tramway. We are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and offer a very warm welcome to those who are considering booking for the first time. Those attending can expect the same friendly atmosphere they are used to when visiting a Citz production with additional support available for those who may find a visit to the theatre, or a new venue, overwhelming." Dominic Hill, Artistic Director, Citizens Theatre.

School groups and families are particularly welcome, and the Citizens Theatre encourages anyone who wishes to discuss access requirements further to contact Denise Differ, Box Office Manager: 0141 429 0022 denise@citz.co.uk. Alternatively, tickets for the Relaxed Performances can be booked by calling Box Office on 0141 429 0022 or are available online at citz.co.uk.
