Judy Garland At the Grove 2008

About the Album: This is Judy's first live concert album recorded August 5, 1958 at the Coconut Grove in the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles, California with Freddy Martin and his Orchestra. Judy Garland inherited Al Jolson's mantle as America's premier 20th-century entertainer. Possessing both the voice and pure show-biz sensibility for the requisite broad gesture, she suffered from a lifelong insecurity, which lent emotional depth to every single performance. Judy Garland (1922-1969) was a film actress and singer who attained international stardom in both musical and dramatic roles, as a recording artist and on the concert stage. Garland was the lead role of Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz (1939) at the age of sixteen, in which she introduced the song with which she would forever be identified, "Over the Rainbow".
