North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre Present THE TOXIC AVENGER
North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre is thrilled present the regional premiere of the 2009 Outer Critics Circle Award winner for Best Off-Broadway Musical, The Toxic Avenger, running October 7th through October 23rd. Based on the campy cult classic movie and featuring a wailing rock score, The Toxic Avenger is written by the award-winning duo behind the hit musical Memphis, with book and lyrics by Broadway veteran Jo DiPeitro and music and lyrics by David Bryan.
The Toxic Avenger is a hot toxic love story and laugh-out-loud musical that has it all- an unlikely hero, his beautiful girlfriend, a corrupt New Jersey mayor, and two guys who play...well, everyone else...bullies, mobsters, old ladies, and sassy back-up singers. This show will leave audiences laughing in the aisles as it rocks the house!
Chasta Hamilton Calhoun directs this fast-paced romp while Joanna Li guides the rocking score as music director. This monster of a musical features 5, tour de force actors/singers portraying 33 different characters. Aaron Alderman transforms the Toxic Avenger from a green mess into the loveable good guy while he chases Sarah, played by Lauren Rainey, the lovely blind librarian. Heather Shinpaugh brings in the evil as the villainous and sexy mayor and also plays her own rival- Toxie's mom- getting to relish a duet with- herself! The 27 other characters are an actor's feast. The riotous quick changes are covered by Jay Dolan and Orlando Parker, Jr. Between the costume changes, character voices, and stunning songs, the powerhouse cast is guaranteed to survive the toxic fumes of Tromaville and leave audiences giddy with delight.
Performances are at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 3pm on Sundays at North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre (7113-51 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC). The show runs approximately 2 hours, including a 15-minute intermission. The play contains strong language and adult content, and it is not recommended for children.
