The Hillsborough Street arts and recreation community is banding together to present the fourth annual Art It Up! on Saturday, October 14. Sixteen of Raleigh's top performing and visual arts organizations, as well as recreation outfits are offering unique, and for the most part free, programs throughout the day.
Michelle Wells, owner and artistic director of Sonorous Road Theatre and Film Studio, said the event is an opportunity for the community to create and connect with the Hillsborough Street district's rich arts culture. "Hillsborough Street has everything from historic community theatres to cafes and galleries that give artists the platforms for exploring the depths of their skills. Art It Up! attendees will have the opportunity to create through workshops and demonstrations, see amazing stage productions, and explore the diverse spaces that make the district a unique destination." Art It Up! programming ranges from Evolve Movement leading a free yoga workshop in the Rose Garden at Raleigh Little Theatre, to an encore presentation of Seed Art Share's immersive theatre production Iced Coffee at Jubala. Meanwhile, the Gregg Museum will host Miska Waya, N.C. State's Native American student drumming group, which is in conjunction with one of the museum's opening exhibitions, Treasures of Native America - Selections from the Drs. Norman and Gilda Greenberg Gift.
