THE FANTASTICKS, the world's longest running musical, will celebrate a record breaking 20,000th New York performance, on Sunday, September 15, 2013, announced producers Catherine Russell and Al Parinello. The milestone will mark the first time a production (on Broadway or Off-Broadway) has ever reached 20,000 performances and will be commemorated in a month long celebration that includes performing at Broadway in Bryant Park and Little Italy, and with The Museum of The City of New York's future cyber gallery highlighting the history of the production. The Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q, currently playing off-Broadway at New World Stages, celebrated its 10th anniversary yesterday, July 31. Prior to curtain, Media and Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver presented a proclamation from the City of New York to the musical's cast, creators and producers declaring July 31 as AVENUE Q DAY. MEGA STAGE TUBE: AVENUE Q Celebrates 10th Anniversary!

Today in 2003 Avenue Q opened at the John Golden Theatre, where it ran for 2534 performances. Avenue Q was conceived by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, who wrote the music and lyrics. The book was written by Jeff Whitty and the show was directed by Jason Moore. Avenue Q is an 'autobiographical and biographical' coming-of-age parable, addressing and satirizing the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood. It opened Off-Broadway in March 2003, co-produced by The New Group and the Vineyard Theatre, and later won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and spawned Las Vegas and West End productions, two national tours, and a variety of international productions. Currently playing at New World Stages (340 W. 50 St.), today will be declared AVENUE Q DAY by the City of New York in honor of the show's 10th anniversary.

Joe's Pub, the beloved live performance venue at The Public Theater and a vital part of New York City's cultural landscape, reopened last week, October 4, after a three month hiatus while undergoing an extensive interior redesign and renovation, spearheaded by original designer and Joe's Pub, LLC partner Serge Becker. Serving more than 100,000 audience members annually, Joe's Pub first opened in 1998 and presents more than 800 performances a year. The American Theatre Wing raised more than $550,000 at their annual Gala last night. All of the proceeds will go towards The Wing's education and outreach programs. The event was held at New York's legendary Plaza Hotel in honor of Sir Howard Stringer (Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Sony Corporation and longtime American Theatre Wing Board Member), and included a special tribute to Douglas B. Leeds (Former President and dear friend of The Wing).

The Off Broadway Alliance, the organization of Off Broadway producers, theaters, general managers, press agents and marketing firms, presented the inaugural Off Broadway Alliance Awards Reception June 21, 2011 at Sardi's. Honorees were on hand to receive their awards and Romulus Linney, Ellen Stewart and Lanford Wilson were posthumously inducted into the Off Broadway Hall of Fame.

Fleet Week is America's premier tribute and 'thank you' to the men and women who serve in the armed forces. On Friday, May 27, cast members from current Broadway shows PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, ANYTHING GOES, JERSEY BOYS, CHICAGO, MAMMA MIA and ROCK OF AGES performed for the troops. Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined the ranks of the many comedians who have spoofed SPIDER-MAN in recent months. Bloomberg's spoofed the troubled SPIDER-MAN musical at Saturday night's Inner Circle charity dinner, where the city's political reporters roast public officials. The major swooped over the stage attached to a harness and then, got stuck.
