Music Director Alan Gilbert opens the New York Philharmonic's 2013-14 season with the Opening Gala concert, headlined by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Gilbert will conduct Mr. Ma and the Orchestra in two works by Argentinian composers: the World Premiere of Octavio Brunetti's arrangement, commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, of a suite from Astor Piazzolla's La serie del Ángel, and Osvaldo Golijov's Azul, composed for the eminent cellist. The program opens with Ravel's Alborada del gracioso and closes with Bolero, two pieces that reflect the French composer's fascination with Spain. The concert will be telecast nationally on Live From Lincoln Center at a later date, and Classical 105.9 FM WQXR at 7:30 p.m.

Music Director Robert Spano will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the 2013-14 Season opening weekend performances September 26 and 27, 2013, at 8:00 p.m.,and September 28, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. These concerts will mark the beginning of the Orchestra's 69th season and the 13th year of artistic partnership between Mr. Spano and Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks, Friday and Saturday, August 16 and 17, at 8 pm, at the Hollywood Bowl. Robert Moody conducts the orchestra in the all-Tchaikovsky program which includes Selections from Swan Lake Suite, Op. 20, Capriccio Italien, Festival Coronation March and a Ukrainian Folk Song Suite (drawn from the Symphony No. 2). The annual Bowl tradition offers a new twist this season - the brass, drum corps and color guard of three of California's top-ranked drum and bugle corps, Pacific Crest, Santa ClaraVanguard, and the Vanguard Cadets, recent winners of the Drum Corp International Open Class World Championship Finals, performing in a Drumline-style collaboration. The release comes exactly one week before Fleisher's 85th birthday today, July 23, 2013, and is supported by a full schedule of appearances as pianist, conductor, and mentor, in the coming year.

The Met's annual concert series in New York City parks is one of the most popular summer traditions in the city. The Summer Recital Series returns in 2013 with six performances in the parks of all five boroughs. The series kicks off with a concert at Central Park SummerStage on July 16, featuring rising opera stars soprano Erin Morley, mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard and tenor Stephen Costello. The Brooklyn concert takes place at Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 1, the largest pier of the park on the East River.
