It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, when artist and artisan, newsman and newsmaker, singer and songwriter celebrate the holiday season with PBS. This year, Tony-winner Alfie Boe and veteran news anchor Tom Brokaw - along with 'Hal' Halvorsen, the 'candy bomber' who dropped chocolates into post-war Berlin in 1948 - join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for an inspirational concert at Temple Square. Harking back to WWI, PBS presents Silent Night, a poignant opera based on the Christmas Eve truce of 1914, when French, German and Scottish soldiers laid down their arms for one evening of peace.

Juilliard School Launches Kovner Fellowship Program

Joseph W. Polisi, President of The Juilliard School, today announced the creation of the Kovner Fellowship Program at Juilliard that will be endowed with a gift of $60 million - the largest single one-time gift to the School - from Bruce and Suzie Kovner, long-time supporters of the School. Providing full tuition, and living expenses, the Fellowships recognize the excellence of Juilliard's classical music students and enhance the School's 100+ year tradition of attracting and developing the most talented musicians in the world.

The New York Philharmonic in collaboration with CAMI Music will celebrate the Chinese New Year for the third consecutive year, welcoming the Year of the Horse with a concert featuring major works of both the Chinese and Western canon on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. The event celebrates the cultural heritage of China and America and honors the Chinese- American community. Long Yu — artistic director and chief conductor of the China Philharmonic, music director of the Shanghai and Guanzhou Symphony Orchestras, and artistic director of the Beijing Music Festival — will return to the Philharmonic to conduct the concert.

Carol Wincenc's 25th Anniversary Recital at The Juilliard School, taking place tonight, September 30, 2013, at 8:00 PM at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, features Debussy's Sonata for flute, viola, and harp, L. 137; the world premiere of Yuko Uebayashi's Misericordia for flute and string quartet, a work written for Wincenc; the U.S. premiere of Schnittke's Moz-Art a la Mozart for eight flutes and harp; the New York premiere of Henze's I Sentimenti di Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach for solo flute, solo harp, double string quartet, and bass; and an arrangement by Daniel Paget: One Hundred Roses: Seven Neapolitan Serenades and Dances for flute, strings, mandolin, guitar, and percussion.
