SAN FRANCISCO CONSERVATORY APPOINTS San Francisco Symphony violists to performance FACULTY

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Barto?k's Piano Concerto No. 3, with Yefim Bronfman as soloist, and Bruckner's Symphony No. 8 (Ed. Nowak, 1890), Thursday, October 23, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 24 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 25 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m.

The Utah Symphony and Music Director Thierry Fischer are joined by renowned piano soloist Yefim Bronfman at Abravanel Hall today and tomorrow, September 19 and 20 at 8 PM. Mr. Bronfman, a regular soloist with orchestras all around the world, will play Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2.

On October 2, 4 and 5, global violin sensation Sarah Chang joins the Houston Symphony for a performance of Barber's intensely lyrical Violin Concerto. The Korean-American violinist has been touted by The New York Times as “technically brilliant, lively and characterful' and has been captivating audiences since her New York Philharmonic debut at age eight.

Internationally renowned artists Steve Aoki and Pink Martini have joined the Honorary Committee for the 13 th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days, a global network of performances organized by the Daniel Pearl Foundation.

Fresh from his Hollywood Bowl debut this summer pianist Behzod Abduraimov replaces Leila Josefowicz in a Los Angeles Philharmonic subscription program at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 17, 18, and 19.

Esa-Pekka Salonen will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Beethoven's King Stephen Overture; Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, with pianist Jeremy Denk in his Philharmonic debut; and Stravinsky's The Firebird (complete), Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 17 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m.

Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter--widely recognized as a champion of new music as well as for her commitment to artistic excellence, dedication to the growth of classical music, and for her support of young artists--presents a six-concert Carnegie Hall Perspectives series throughout the 2014-2015 season, demonstrating all of her core artistic interests. Ms. Mutter champions 20th- and 21st-century violin repertoire throughout her series, including contemporary works written for her by Sebastian Currier, Norbert Moret, and Andre Previn.

In the upcoming season, James Levine leads musicians from The MET Orchestra in five programs at Carnegie Hall with a wide array of acclaimed soloists as guest artists. The series begins with The MET Orchestra on Sunday, October 12 at 3:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, performing Mahler's Symphony No. 9 as well as Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, K. 467 with soloist Maurizio Pollini

The September broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begins with Music Director Alan Gilbert launching the Philharmonic's 2014 Bravo! Vail residency with Nielsen's Maskarade Overture; Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, with the 2013-14 Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman as soloist; selections from Grieg's Peer Gynt; and Liszt's Les Preludes. The second week, Alan Gilbert conducts the Orchestra in a performance of R. Strauss's Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks; The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Oboe Concerto, with Principal Oboe Liang Wang as soloist; and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, Overture-Fantasy. The following week, Bramwell Tovey conducts the New York Philharmonic at Bravo! Vail in Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man; Gershwin's "Strike Up the Band" from Strike Up the Band; Copland's Clarinet Concerto, with Associate Principal Clarinet Mark Nuccio as soloist; and Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite. In the final week of September, Music Director Alan Gilbert conducts the New York Philharmonic in a program of Mozart's final three symphonies - Nos. 39, 40, and 41, Jupiter -recorded in November 2013.

Carnegie Hall launches its 2014-2015 season on Wednesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. with an Opening Night Gala concert featuring the Berliner Philharmoniker and Music Director Sir Simon Rattle. The program includes Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 with Carnegie Hall Perspectives artist Anne-Sophie Mutter as well as Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances and Stravinsky's closing scenes from The Firebird.

The August broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin -- begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert conducting the New York Philharmonic in the opening program of The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, featuring the 2014-14 season Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman as soloist. Over the course of the three-week festival Mr. Bronfman performs the complete Beethoven Piano Concerto cycle as well as the Triple Concerto with Principal Cello Carter Brey and Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow in the final Philharmonic appearance of his 34-year tenure. The festival also features the World Premieres of Lyra by Anthony Cheung and Songs by Sean Shepherd, both commissioned by the New York Philharmonic as part of The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Prize for New Music, pairing the master composer's concertos with new commissions now entering the repertoire.

The New York Philharmonic begins its 12th annual Bravo! Vail residency on Friday, July 18 with renowned pianist Yefim Bronfman playing Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto.

The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado for the Orchestra's 12th- annual summer residency there, performing six concerts today, July 18-25, 2014.

Bravo! Vail today announced that Colorado Public Radio Classical (CPR Classical) will broadcast six concerts from their 2014 "SummerFest" concert series to listeners across Colorado, including concerts featuring pianist Helene Grimaud and The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin on July 12, and pianist Yefim Bronfman and the New York Philharmonic conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert on July 19.
