Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Announces 2017 North American Tour Dates

The full schedule of concert dates and programming for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra's 2017 North American Tour were officially announced today by the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with the opening night set for Oct. 25 at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra to Cease Operations After 38 Seasons

The Board of Directors for the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra has elected to shutter the venerable ensemble permanently. The decision follows a Board vote in April to suspend operations for the 2017-18 season, pending a review of the organization's prospects. The Chamber Orchestra presented its final concert of the 2016-17 season on May 16 at the Lobero Theatre.

NY Philharmonic Announces Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership

The New York Philharmonic travels to Shanghai for its third annual performance residency as part of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership, July 2–8, 2017. The residency will feature four performances at Shanghai Symphony Hall, including a Young People's Concert in which select students from the Shanghai Orchestra Academy (SOA) will perform Dvo?ák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World, alongside the Orchestra; master classes, lessons, coachings, and a side-by-side Philharmonic rehearsal with SOA students of Dvo?ák's New World Symphony and Brahms's Symphony No. 3; and a Very Young Composers workshop and performance. The performances are presented as part of Shanghai's Music in the Summer Air (MISA) festival. The Philharmonic's Shanghai partnership is a cornerstone and founding component of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy. Starr International Foundation is the Presenting Sponsor of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership.

Houston Symphony Features Dance Students for PETRUSHKA

The Houston Symphony is teaming up with dozens of students from Crespo Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School Dance Department and Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School Dance Ensemble for a modern-day staging of the 1911 ballet Petrushka, to be premiered at 8 p.m. May 11 and 13 and 2:30 p.m. May 14 at Jones Hall.

Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra Suspends 2017-18 Season to Review Funding

In an effort to gauge the extent of financial support from the community, the Board of Directors for the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra has elected to suspend operations for the 2017-18 season, pending a review of the organization's prospects beyond its current season. A specially formed committee will complete a comprehensive assessment of SBCO budget and programming models within 90 days, after which the organization's leadership will decide on a course of action. Options include presenting next season's program in its entirety as planned, offering a reduced number of concerts, or shuttering the venerable ensemble permanently. The orchestra will present its final concert of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday, May 16, at the Lobero Theatre.

Emerson String Quartet Celebrates 40th Anniversary at Carnegie Hall

The world-renowned Emerson String Quartet returns to Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium on May 7 at 3 PM for a performance of Ravel and Berg Quartets and the Brahms Quintet with internationally acclaimed pianist Yefim Bronfman.  Presented by Carnegie Hall, this marks the final celebration of Emerson String Quartet's 40th Anniversary -- a major milestone for this ground-breaking ensemble, named "America's greatest quartet" by TIME Magazine. The Cleveland Orchestra Announces 100th Season for 2017-18

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Most have announced details of the Orchestra's 2017-18 calendar.  The season will be the ensemble's 100th year of concerts and marks the launch of its Second Century.  2017-18 is also the 16th year of the Orchestra's acclaimed partnership with Franz Welser-Most.
