The South African State Theatre has announced that veteran performer Bheki Mkhwane will no longer be part of Bopha's season -starting from 25 May to 13 June 2021- after being booked off sick for four weeks.
As 2014 speeds along to its final curtain, it is once again time to reflect on some of the theatrical highlights on South Africa's stages over the past 12 months. First up, we have six of the best plays seen in theatres around the country this year.
SILENT VOICE is something else. An audacious play written and directed by Aubrey Sekhabi, it shatters conservative middle class perceptions of that which represents a compelling theatre experience and is the kind of confrontational and provocative theatre that we do not see often enough on main stem stages in this country.
Straight from its success at the 2014 Edinburgh Assembly Fringe Festival, Aubrey Sekhabi's high-octane, gripping thriller SILENT VOICE, featuring a stellar cast, will have audiences riveted to their seats at the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio this October.
