Newcomer Marisa Wegrzyn Wins 2009 Wasserstein Prize, Ceremony Held 12/1

Emerging playwright Marisa Wegrzyn is the recipient of the 2009 Wasserstein Prize for her play Hickorydickory. The Wasserstein Prize was established in memory of the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein, who died in 2006. The $25,000 prize is awarded for an outstanding script by a young woman who has not yet received national attention. The Wasserstein Prize is funded by the Educational Foundation of America (EFA) and administered by Theatre Development Fund. It will be presented by Wendy's life-long friend and EFA Board member Heidi Ettinger and TDF's Executive Director Victoria Bailey at a reception at The Players at 16 Gramercy Park South in New York City on Tuesday, December 1. In addition to the $25,000 prize, Ms. Wegrzyn's play, Hickorydickory, will receive a reading at Second Stage Theatre in New York City.

XANADU Welcomes Youngsters for Kids Night on Broadway 12/15-17

In collaboration with The Broadway League, the Orange County Performing Arts Center has scheduled special Kids' Night on Broadway performances of XANADU on Tuesday, December 15; Wednesday, December 16; and Thursday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m.

It's Official: Lucille Lortel Awards Set for Sunday May 2 at Terminal 5

Today, the Off-Broadway League announces the date and venue for the 25th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. This year's ceremony will benefit The Actors Fund and will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Terminal 5, 610 West 56th Street. Arrivals / Cocktails begin at 6 PM EST with the ceremony beginning at 8 PM EST.

Lucielle Lortel Awards Themed 'Off-Broadway Comes Home' to be Presented 5/2/2010

The annual Lucille Lortel awards, celebrating the year's Off-Broadway productions and performances will be presented May 2nd, 2010, with nominees announcements coming April 1st. This will be the 25th Anniversary of the awards and will be centered around the theme 'Off-Broadway Comes Home.'

Meredith Vieira Named KIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAY National Ambassador

The Broadway League announced today that Meredith Vieira, journalist, television personality, game show hostess - and mother - will serve as the KIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAYâ National Ambassador. She currently co-hosts NBC's Today and often contributes to Dateline NBC. She is the current hostess for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

TCG?s fifth annual Free Night of Theater will have its NYC launch with a day-long celebration in Union Square on October 15 from 12:00PM until 6:00PM. Topping last year?s event in scope, scale and vision, this Union Square Free Night of Theater Celebration will have booths, art installations, and performances ? both scheduled and spontaneous ? as well as guest speakers including theatre artists and local politicians. The park will be transformed into a theatrical street fair with a performance stage and roving artists - under a canopy of colorful vibrant umbrellas. Programming for all ages will take place throughout the day and surprises are guaranteed. This event allows NYC theatre artists to come together as a community and share their gifts with the general public.

TAP (TDF's Accessibility Programs) Announces Upcoming Open Captioned Performances on Broadway for Fall '09

TAP (TDF's Accessibility Programs), which has been instrumental in expanding open captioning on and Off Broadway, and regionally across the United States, announces the schedule of performances which will feature the service on Broadway this fall. Open captioning, which TDF introduced on Broadway in 1997, is more inclusive of all hard-of-hearing audiences than traditional sign language interpretation.
