The new drama Sweat by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined; By The Way, Meet Vera Stark) comes to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater following a critically-acclaimed debut at Oregon Shakespeare Festival as part of a co-commission between the two theaters. Hailed by The New York Times as an 'extraordinarily moving drama' that 'brims with the kind of ripe, richly imagined life associated with the work of the great August Wilson,' the play is directed by Nottage's longtime collaborator Kate Whoriskey and runs January 15-February 21, 2016 in the Kreeger Theater.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has also approved a renovation of the Helen Hayes Theater

 About Face Theatre Company is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean Carpenter as its new Managing Director. Carpenter succeeds Corinne Neal, who stepped down early this year.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces select cast members for the upcoming 2016 productions of Sweat, The City of Conversation and All the Way.

Theatre luminaries will gather on Monday, November 16, 2015, to honor Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and Dominique Morisseau at the 2015 Steinberg Playwright Awards, presented by The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust. Scenes highlighting their previous and new work will be presented at the 8th Annual 'Mimi' Awards, which will take place at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. 

The Flea Theater presents TAKE CARE, by Niegel Smith and Todd Shalom. This world premiere production marks Smith's directorial debut at his new artistic home and will feature The Bats, the resident acting company at the Flea. Previews start December 1 with Opening Night slated for Sunday, December 6.

On November 16 & 17, Performance Space 122 (PS122) is presenting two special nights of Eric Bogosian's 100 Monologues series to benefit PS122's move next year back into their home in the East Village.

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director, Casey Reitz Executive Director) just announced complete casting for its upcoming New York premiere production of SMART PEOPLE, the new play by LYDIA R. DIAMOND (Stick Fly), directed by Tony® Award winnerKENNY LEON (A Raisin in the Sun, The Wiz Live!).  MAHERSHALA ALI (House of Cards), JOSHUA JACKSON (The Affair), ANNE SON (My Generation), and TESSA THOMPSON (Creed) will co-star in the production.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the publication of Between Riverside and Crazy, the 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Stephen Adly Guirgis. The play premiered at Atlantic Theater Company (Off-Broadway, New York) in the summer of 2014, with a subsequent production shortly after at Second Stage Theatre Company (Off-Broadway, New York), in the winter of 2015.

Off-Broadway's KING LIZ is coming to Showtime.

Second Stage Theatre's New York premiere production of INVISIBLE THREAD, a new musical by Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews, in association with American Repertory Theater, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin), will begin performances next Saturday, October 31st at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd street). 

Broadway's Andréa Burns (original Daniela from IN THE HEIGHTS and currently starring in ON YOUR FEET!) presents a hilarious and moving evening that explores finding a state of grace at 40, while reasserting that Latinas don't play, at Feinstein's/54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, on November 9, 16 and December 14, 2015. 

Sundance Institute today announced the projects and artists participating in its two Fall artist development programs: the Alumni Writers Studio at Flying Point in Water Mill, NY, which ran October 4-11, as well as the two-week Theatre Lab for musical theatre, ensemble-generated projects and solo work at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), taking place November 8-22. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the initiatives are among the 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content.

The new Detroit Public Theatre will welcome audiences to its premiere production, American Hero, with a grand opening event October 30.

Ari Graynor has signed on to the cast of Jim Carrey's dark comedy I'M DYING UP HERE, heading to Showtime in 2016.
