Tonight, San Diego REP hosted their Season 41 announcement party, where company leadership announced the 2016-2017 lineup featuring two world premiere plays with music, with books by Hershey Felder and by Todd Salovey, respectively; two world premiere plays by Herbert Siguenza and Karen Zacarias, respectively; the 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama; one of the most produced plays in America; and the plans for a newly renovated lobby and seating area of the Stage theatre.

Directed by Rich McKey, who brings his creative vision of what kind of world Levin's five characters should inhabit as they simultaneously create and avoid their own demise, Deathtrap is a joyride into the minds of maniacal people who think that their plans and intentions will be brought about not only because of the sheer brilliance they believe themselves to have, but also because everyone else is not thinking along the same lines. From playwrights to psychics, to the innocent wife who sits on a couch and merely wants a part in the unfolding plot she knows nothing about, everyone in this show wants to be included in some way, shape or form; although this is human nature to some extent, what people will do to see their vision become a reality is nothing short of something out of a book…and that is exactly what makes this play so damn fascinating.

More than 100 local and national theatre artists representing nearly than 60 San Diego theatrical productions will compete for the 2015 Craig Noel Awards, the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle announced today.

The National Endowment for the Arts announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million in its first funding round of fiscal year 2016, including an Art Works award of $10,000 to San Diego REPertory Theatre to support a new work by Herbert Siguenza.

e award-winning Actors' Conservatory Theatre (ACT-San Diego, www.actsandiego.com) presents an adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, with a 31 member youth and young adult cast. A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre, presents two free, staged readings this fall: Are You Now or Have You Ever Been by Eric Bentley, directed by Apollo Dukakis, on Wednesday, November 11 at 7 pm; and, on Monday, November 16 at 7PM, in partnership with East West Players, The Recognition of Shakuntala by Kalidasa, translated by W. J. Johnson, directed by Jonathan Munoz-Proulx. Both readings are performed as part of Words Within, A Noise Within's ongoing series of free play readings by resident artists.
