Mariana Montes to Star in UTERINE AFFAIRS at Hollywood Fringe

French playwright and director, Celine Nyanga, selected the perfect spot in old Hollywood, (Figaro Bistrot Boulangerie) with its French antiques, dimly lit, cast-iron chandeliers and a zinc bar for this special evening.  It was the ideal place for Nyanga to offer the lead role of her upcoming play Uterine Affairs or the Inconceivable Conception, to the delightful and proficient actress Mariana Montes.

BWW Review: Fine Acting Not Enough For MY SISTER

Playwright Janet Schlapkohl's MY SISTER has the good fortune of having two fine actresses, identical twins Elizabeth Hinkler and Emily Hinkler, in her two-character play. Easy to see why these two won the Hollywood Fringe Festival's Best Acting award in these same roles last year.

Also returning from that production are Richard Fancy and Dennis Madden; the three will be joined onstage by David Agranov, Robert Lesser, Allan Miller, James Morosini, Melissa Paladino and Gary Patent. Awake and Sing! opens at the Odyssey Theatre on Sept. 26.

BWW Review: THE FALSE SERVANT Puts the Focus on Money in a Very Modern Love Triangle

Like modern soap operas, THE FALSE SERVANT centers on a love triangle between two women and one man. Each plans to marry him, but he is only interested in which woman can bring him the best financial arrangement. And we are told from the beginning that if your mind has room for reason, there is no room for love. Thus is set up the battle of the sexes with the only reason for love being the acquisition of money.

BWW Review: Inventive Staging and Superb Acting Highlight Odyssey Theatre's OEDIPUS MACHINA

The wondrous production at the Odyssey Theater begins the moment you walk into the misty other-worldly atmospheric set designed by Keith Mitchell which, along with the dome and water well, has the blind soothsayer Tiresias perched in a woven swing hanging just above the entrance. A large, clear glass orb hangs above the front row with an image of an ancient warrior, soon identified as slain King Laius, within it. The mood is set for a theatrical experience unlike anything you have seen before when it comes to Greek Tragedy!
