Kate Mulvany has been announced as the latest recipient of STC's Patrick White Playwrights' Fellowship at a special event at The Wharf on Friday 22 May. Now in its fifth year, the Fellowship is a position for an established playwright whose work has been produced professionally in Australia within the last four years. Mulvany receives $25,000 in recognition of her body of work and previous artistic achievements. As well as including a commission from STC which she will develop during the year-long tenure, the Fellowship provides opportunities for her to share her skills with other playwrights and artists.

Retro Productions is celebrating their 10th anniversary with, The Butter and Egg Man by George S. Kaufman. Perhaps one of Kaufman's lesser known works, The Butter and Egg Man is a wonderful comedy about producing theater and was one of Kaufman's biggest Broadway successes when it opened at the Longacre Theatre in 1925. The production is directed by Ricardo Rust, who co-produced Retro Productions, An Appeal to the Woman of the House which was nominated for 3 New York Innovative Theater Awards and won an award for Heather E. Peruvian 'wandering folk' beatniks Kanaku y El Tigre, release their sophomore (and first international) album, 'Quema Quema Quema', via the acclaimed Strut imprint in conjunction with Tiger's Milk Records. This anthemic, hook laden slice of electronic tinged indie-folk, direct from Lima, could very well become a soundtrack to the summer. The album will be out today, May 19, 2015.
There is a very famous episode of the classic TV show The Twilight Zone called 'The Monsters are Due on Maple Street.' The episode dramatizes the concepts of how and why people might in fact turn into monsters. It demands that the viewer ask 'who are the real monsters?' and 'is it us?' These sorts of questions about monsters and how they are created have been around for many years. One of the most famous, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, is now receiving a new and fascinating adaptation at Mixed Magic Theatre.
