Mile Square Theatre to Launch Fall Performance Fest 9/29

Mile Square Theatre, Hudson County's leading professional theatre, announces the MST Fall Performance Fest, a series that offers an exciting, eclectic blend of affordable entertainment, running select evenings at the Monroe Theaterspace from September 29 to October 14.

Tony Lo Bianco to Lead WHAT THE BABE SAID and JOINT RETURN in 2013

Tony-nominated producer Jeff Britton (THE ME NOBODY KNOWS) is set to present WHAT THE BABE SAID and JOINT RETURN, two one-act plays by Martin Halpern, in early 2013, starring Tony Award-nominee Tony Lo Bianco (A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, HIZZONER!). Tony-nominated director John Tillinger (LOOT, LOVE LETTERS) is set to direct the production at an Off-Broadway venue to be announced.

Peccadillo Theater Company's TEN CHIMNEYS Begins Rehearsals

The award-winning Peccadillo Theater Company will present the New York City premiere of TEN CHIMNEYS, a new comedy by Jeffrey Hatcher, starring Byron Jennings as Alfred Lunt, Carolyn McCormick as Lynn Fontanne, Mariette Hartley as Lunt's mother Hattie and Michael McCarty as Sydney Greenstreet. Rehearsals are set to begin today, August 27th. Performances will begin on September 21st with the Opening on Sunday, September 30th at Theatre at St. Clement's, 423 West 46th Street (between Ninth & Tenth Aves.) The cast of TEN CHIMNEYS also features Charlotte Booker, Julia Bray and John Wernke, under the direction of OBIE Award winner Dan Wackerman.

Reading of Dustin Lance Black's '8' Held at Alley Theatre, 9/10

A one-night-only reading of 8 will be performed on the Alley Theatre's Neuhaus Stage, with license from the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact. Academy Award-winning screenwriter and AFER Founding Board Member Dustin Lance Black's play chronicles the historic trial in the federal constitutional challenge to California's Proposition 8. The reading will be Monday, September 10 at 7:30 PM.

Van Gogh's PORTRAIT OF A PEASANT on Loan at The Frick, 10/30-1/20

This fall The Frick Collection will present Vincent van Gogh's Portrait of a Peasant (Patience Escalier). The painting has not left its home institution, the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California, in nearly forty years, making this a rare and exciting viewing opportunity for East Coast audiences. The modern masterpiece will be shown in the Frick's Oval Room from October 30, 2012, through January 20, 2013.

BWW Reviews: Logan's Tony-Winning RED Fascinates at Mark Taper Forum

Many plays with an art theme have been written over the past decades, chief among them Yasmina Reza's Art, which shows the positive and negative effects of art on everyday life, but in John Logan's Red, it is the artist (Mark Rothko) himself who holds court, and the audience shares his space with him for two hours. This intimate exposure is awe-inspiring as lyrically expressed by John Logan, and is fiercely conveyed by Alfred Molina as Rothko and Jonathan Groff as Ken his 'employee' on the Taper stage through September 9.

Penobscot Theatre Company to Unveil, Auction Off ART OUTTA THE BOX Installations, 8/10

Starting Friday, August 10, Downtown Bangor will be dotted with some unusual art installations for all to see as Penobscot Theatre Company unveils Art Outta the Box. In collaboration with PTC, a dozen area artists have transformed old newspaper vending machines, donated by the Bangor Daily News, into unique works of art, which will be sponsored or sold by auction to support the theatre.
