Born in Berkeley, California in the 1960s, Joshua Redman is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. He is one of the most recognizable jazz saxophonists, as famous for his masterful straight-ahead post-bop improvisations as he is for his explorations of groove-based idioms. Redman won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition for saxophone in 1991, and has played alongside of many jazz icons including Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, and Clark Terry.
Today, Wells Fargo Center for the Arts announced two new performances to be presented at the Ruth Finley Person Theater (50 Mark West Springs Rd., Santa Rosa, CA). On Thursday, July 17 at 8 p.m., twenty-time Grammy winner Pat Metheny ('Last Train Home') will appear with multiple Grammy-winning singer and pianist Bruce Hornsby ('The Way It Is') in Campfire Tour 2014. Returning to Santa Rosa on Saturday, December 20, for two performances at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. is the Moscow Ballet in the holiday favorite Great Russian Nutcracker. Metheny has performed with artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, and David Bowie, but he's especially excited about his bandmates on this tour. "The Unity [Group] project was life-changing for me," he says. "I have led many groups of talented musicians, but what went down with that band on a night after night basis was inspiring in a way that was really unlike anything else."
