Exactly 125 years from when the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University opened its doors in 1889, the National Historic Landmark, led by Board Chairman Melvin L. Katten and Executive Director Brett Batterson, celebrates its milestone 125th Anniversary with a special performance, "Living the History - 125 Years of the Auditorium Theatre" on December 9, 2014. The celebratory evening, which begins with a star-studded program at the Auditorium Theatre (50 E Congress Pkwy), will include a tribute to the diverse entertainment that has been, and continues to be presented at the theatre including symphonic music, opera, Broadway musicals, rock music and dance. The performance will be immediately followed by a Gala Celebration Dinner at the Palmer House Hilton (17 E Monroe) to cap off the extraordinary night.

The man picking up the torch this fall is Jeff Hanley, also a well-known name in the Seattle, Bay Area, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara radio markets. Jazz After Hours airs twice weekly on more than 60 Public Radio International station.

The 19th Annual Summer Solstice Celebration by the Paul Winter Consort with special guests trombonist Chris Brubeck (The Brubeck Brothers Quartet/Triple Play), multi-instrumentalist Paul McCandless (Oregon/Pat Metheny) and world-renowned pipe organist Timothy Brumfield will once again welcome the summer tonight, June 21st in the world's largest Gothic cathedral, St. John the Divine located at Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street. Winter and colleagues will premiere a new work, 'Morning of the Phoenix,'inspired by the two spectacular 100-foot long bird sculptures, entitled Phoenix, by renowned Chinese artist Xu Bing that were recently installed in the nave of the cathedral. Beginning in complete darkness at 4:30 AM, musicians play for two hours as the sun gradually illuminates the cathedral's stained-glass windows.
