Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (CDT) teams up in a poignant theatre collaboration with beloved and celebrated Twin Cities icons, Nancy Nelson & Don Shelby, as they star in LOVE LETTERS at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres for a limited four performance engagement in November.
Love Letters by A. R. Gurney was nominated in 1990 for a Pulitzer Prize in Drama. It follows the ever-changing relationship of Andrew and Melissa through 50-plus years of correspondence, starting at age 6 in first grade.
From candy shops to toymakers to flying cars, the whole family is in for a sweet treat with CenterPoint Legacy Theatre's performance of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG.
The Flea Theater has announced the establishment of THE GURNEY PLAYWRIGHTS FUND. The Fund, a $100,000 annual gift to The Flea, will support playwrights as well as their productions in equal measure throughout the season.
A hint of a seasonal theme inspires Next Act Theatre's Heresy while adding a political twist on on the holiday spirit. A.R. Gurney's near apocalyptic play places Mary and Joe searching for their rebel son Chris in America's jails, now under protection by Homeland Security. Pontius, a leader with a rather droll wife Phyllis, tries to befriend Mary and Joe in finding their son who was arrested without cause. While the couple waits for news of their son, a military recorder named Mark, that just happens to be the name of one of the four gospel writers in the Bible, rattles off biblical phrases referring to the nativity and condemnation of Christ with equal aplomb.
Ever heard the old adage that you should never share the stage with a dog? Next Stop Theatre's production of A. R. Gurney's empty-nest comedy 'Sylvia' shows it goes double when an actress is the one playing a dog. Sherry Berg has one of the most entertaining roles imaginable-Sylvia the mutt, part poodle (mais oui) and part street ('sup). Her shameless, joyful romp is the highlight of the show.

Forget playing the stock market. Storage-container auctions are a place for high-stakes financial risks and rewards where the right purchase can bring in serious cash. Spike TV has announced it will go into production with a new series showcasing two business-savvy friends who make their fortune by purchasing storage containers at these auctions and re-selling the contents for a profit at pawn shops. This world is as cutthroat and angst-filled as Wall Street, where only the most brazen can turn someone's unclaimed goods into treasure.
Middle-aged women will love A. R. Gurney's play Sweet Sue about a woman's desire for a younger man. Currently on stage at Group rep, Sweet Sue receives a fine, extremely well-acted production helmed by artistic director Ernest Figueroa.
