Plays and Players Presents EARLY IN THE MOURNING, 11/5-11/22

Plays & Players, Center City Philadelphia's longest continually operated theater at 1714 Delancey Place, will present the world premiere of Early in the Mourning, running November 5 - November 22 in the 3rd Floor Skinner Studio.

The Playwrights Realm Announces Their Writers Fellows Program

Each year The Playwrights Realm will choose a select number of emerging playwrights as the 'Playwrights Realm Writers Fellows.' As a Writers Fellow, the chosen playwrights will receive a monetary stipend, as well as additional support in the form of, office space at The Playwrights Realm offices, office supplies, administrative assistance, and artistic support all culminating in an open reading of their work.

Joe Calarco Joins Creative Team Of Playwright Horizons & Vineyard Theatre's THE BURNT PART BOYS

Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director, Tim Sanford; Managing Director, Leslie Marcus) and the Vineyard Theatre (Artistic Director, Douglas Aibel; Executive Director, Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell) have announced that four-time Helen Hayes Award-winning director Joe Calarco (Shakespeare's R&J) has joined the creative team of the upcoming new musical THE BURNT PART BOYS by Mariana Elder (book), Nathan Tysen (lyrics) and Chris Miller (music).

A STEADY RAIN Supports the Actors Fund: Hosts Benefit Performance, 11/8

A STEADY RAIN, currently playing at The Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway starring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman, will dedicate the November 8th performance to The Actors Fund, granting proceeds to the fund in support of their programs and services. The curtain rises at 7:00pm.

THE FANTASTICKS to Kick Off Long Wharf's 2009-10 Season Oct 7 - Nov 1

Long Wharf Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and Managing Director Ray Cullom, will present the beloved musical The Fantasticks, directed by Amanda Dehnert, from October 7 through November 1, 2009, on the Mainstage.

Lucy fans get ready. The new play I Loved Lucy by Lee Tannen has been adapted by the author from his best-selling memoir of the same name for a special (invitation only) second NYC staged reading on Tuesday, October 27th.

Rapp, Kron & Corthron Set for Play Co's Idea Lab at New Dramatists, 10/26

A panel of prominent American playwrights including Kia Corthron, Lisa Kron and Adam Rapp, will discuss with celebrated photographer Ken Collins how they approach creating portraits with words and with a camera, respectively at a one-time-only event entitled 'Face to Face: Portraits in Theatre and Photography' on Monday, October 26 at 7 p.m. at New Dramatists (424 W. 44 St.) in Manhattan. Presented by the Off-Broadway theater company, The Play Company as part of its Idea Lab series, in conjunction with Umbrage Editions, the evening will also feature brief excerpts from the playwrights' work along with an exhibition of photographs from 'In Their Company,' a series of black and white portraits by Mr. Collins that portray some of America's most distinguished playwrights. A reception follows in the New Dramatists Library.

Rialto Chatter: Jackman and Craig Auction Undershirts on Stage for BC/EFA

Audience members in the audience on Friday night at A Steady Rain have reported to BroadwayWorld.com that with Hugh Jackman acting as auctioneer, along with Daniel Craig, the pair auctioned off their undershirts for a total of $10,000 for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, with two matching $5,000 bids. Jackman did the same thing during his BOY FROM OZ days as part of BC/EFA's fundraising efforts.

Following his sold-out Huntington Theatre production of Brendan, where he recounts an Irish immigrant's voyage to US citizenship, and his off-Broadway smash hit starring Campbell Scott as the Midwestern journalist August Early in The Atheist, Elliot Norton Award-winner Ronan Noone continues his exploration of the American psyche in Little Black Dress.

Acclaimed theater company Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced nine initial performers who will participate in the return of its unique benefit evening STORIES ON 5 STORIES on Monday, November 9. Among those taking part in the special event will be two-time Academy Award winner and two-time Obie Award winner Diane Wiest (Memory House at Playwrights Horizons/PH, Hannah and Her Sisters, Bullets Over Broadway), Tony Award winner Debra Monk (Assassins at PH, Redwood Curtain, Curtains), Obie Award winner Jason Butler Harner (current Stage Manager in Our Town, Hedda Gabler, The Coast of Utopia), Clarence Derwent Award winner Zoe Kazan (100 Saints You Should Know at PH; Come Back, Little Sheba; Things We Want), Theatre World Award winner Cassie Beck (The Drunken City and Prayer for My Enemy at PH), Cristin Milioti (The Retributionists at PH, the upcoming The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter), Sue Jean Kim (The Drunken City and BFE at PH, 365 Days/365 Plays), Carmen M. Herlihy (The Thugs, Crooked) and Greg Keller (Broadway's Uncle Vanya, The Rainmaker). Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

AVENUE Q National Tour Makes Gainesville Debut, 10/9

AVENUE Q, the three-time Tony winning Broadway musical about real life in New York City, as told by a cast of people and puppets through a irreverent Tony-winning book and score, will make its Gainesville debut at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 10.

ATC Opens 25th Season With Chicago Premiere Of Hollmann & Kotis' YEAST NATION, Runs 9/10-10/18, Opens 9/17

American Theater Company (ATC) kicks off its 25th season with the Chicago Premiere of Yeast Nation (the triumph of life) with music & lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book & lyrics by Greg Kotis. The production is directed by Artistic Director PJ Paparelli, with Musical Direction by Mark Elliott, and will run September 10 - October 18, 2009 at American Theater Company, 1909 W. Byron St, Chicago. An official opening is set for Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 7 PM.

A STEADY RAIN Unstoppable, Breaks Own Box Office Record

Variety reports this week that the Broadway hit, A Steady Rain starring powerhouse duo Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman, broke it's own box office record last week, setting a new high in weekly gross sales for a non-musical production. Last week the production pulled in $1,276,106 in sales, with an the average ticket price of a startling $147. As standard ticket prices range from $66 - $140, this figure suggests that many more seats than usual are being sold at premium prices. This placed the production fourth on the comprehensive gross charts, landing after the moster hits Wicked, Billy Elliott and The Lion King.

Dael Orlandersmith takes Chicago audiences on an electrifying journey through the spirit and soul of Harlem in her explosive solo piece Stoop Stories at Goodman Theatre. A STEADY RAIN's Hugh Jackman & Daniel Craig Featured in TIME Magazine

The critically-acclaimed new American two-character play by Keith Huff is directed by Tony Award nominee John Crowley, and began previews on Thursday, September 10, 2009, and opens tonight Tuesday, September 29, 2009 and runs through Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
