Steep Theatre Company will kick off the new year with the Midwest Premiere of Obie Award-winner Ethan Lipton's Luther. This darkly comic examination of America's uneasy relationship with our veterans premiered to much critical acclaim last summer in New York as part of the Clubbed Thumb Summerworks 2012 festival. Luther now makes it way to Steep and Chicago for just its second production. Joanie Schultz, director of past Steep hits In Arabia We'd All Be Kings, A Brief History of Helen of Troy, and The Receptionist, returns to direct the production. The show opens at Steep Theatre on Thursday, January 24th and runs through March 2nd.

Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Beth Henley's 100-proof comedy THE MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST, starring film and television actress Amber Tamblyn and directed by Tony Award winner Judith Ivey, will bow on Broadway in the spring of 2013. THE MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST marks Ms. Tamblyn's Broadway debut and Ms. Ivey's Broadway debut as director, and is produced by HOP Theatricals. Broadway theater and dates to be announced.
Arizona Theatre Company presents the Arizona Premiere of "Jane Austen's Emma" a new romantic musical comedy that brings Jane Austen's masterpiece to life. "Jane Austen's Emma" plays at the Temple of Music and Art and runs from December 1, 2012 - December 22, 2012. The play is dramatized from the book by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Making her Rep directorial debut, KJ Sanchez will direct the play. The cast features Associate Artists Jonathan Gillard Daly, Laura Gordon, Lee E. Ernst, James Pickering and Deborah Staples and guest actors J. Alexander Coe, Kelley Faulkner, Larry Neumann, Jr., and rising Chicago actress Lauren Hirte in the title role. Rep Artistic Intern Ensemble Members Jonathan Altman, Emily Berman, Jess Prichard and J.R. Yancher are also in this production. The Diary of Anne Frank runs in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse from October 23 - December 2 and opens Today, October 26.

Sloan Foundation Initiative commissions for Manhattan Theatre Club. This year's six commissioned writers are April de Angelis (Jumpy), Nick Jones (The Coward), Heidi Schreck (Creature), Melissa Ross (Thinner Than Water), Sarah Treem (A Feminine Ending), and Bess Wohl (Barcelona).
