Vital Theatre Company Announces Programming for Families

The award-winning VITAL THEATRE COMPANY, is pleased to announce that its 2008-2009 Family Programing will include 4 original musicals for children and families, performed by adults, 'DAISY IN DISGUISE,' 'THE KLEZMER NUTCRACKER,' 'THE PRINCESS OF RIVERSIDE DRIVE,' and 'THE FROG AND THE WITCH.' Public performances run Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00am and 1:00pm, October 11, 2008 through April 26, 2009.

'Chocolate Soup' Adds Encore Performance on 10/4

Winner of the 2008 Moss Hart Memorial Award and Trophy, the original musical Chocolate Soup will hold an encore performance on Saturday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zipper Theatre, as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

TWILIGHT IN MANCHEGO maps the story of Esau Munsey, who leaves a haunted past in the city to teach fourth grade in a provincial elementary school. But his intentions to provoke change in an outdated education system distract him from the students he really wants to inspire. When Esau's history repeats itself and the small town of Manchego is struck by tragedy, Esau must finally put to rest the ghosts of his past and make peace with himself and his choices.

SOPHIA'S FALL is an intense musical journey chronicling the final acts of creation through the eyes of Sophia, the mother angel who saved Adam and Eve from Lucifer and his fallen demons. An epic love story, SOPHIA'S FALL is about the triumph of love over justice and the battle that rages inside each of us. A four-piece rock band and fluid, modern dance choreography round out a dark, tuneful score. SOPHIA'S FALL is an official selection of the 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival announces the three Next Broadway Sensation finalists for their third annual contest, formerly known as Broadway Idol. Moving on to the grand finale will be Shawna M. Hamic, Mike Harrison, and Omar Lopez-Cepero.

COLLEGE The Musical Extends at NYMF Through 10/3

Following rave reviews and a sold out run, COLLEGE The Musical has extended at this year's New York Musical Theater Festival. Initially scheduled to close September 28, COLLEGE will add a performance at 10:30pm on Friday, October 3 at the ATA Chernuchin Theater (314 W 54th Street). Tickets are available at www.nymf.org.

On Thursday September 25th, as part of The ASCAP Foundation's NYMF Seminar Series, the cast of [title of show] discussed the highs and lows of guiding their musical from the New York Musical Theatre Festival to Broadway, there was also a performance and cd sigining as part of the evening. The event took place at Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Square which is located at 1972 Broadway at 66th Street.

'I Love You Madam President' to be Read at NYMF on 9/26

Rick Hilsabeck (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), Kate Fisher (Les Mis), and Scott Barnhardt (Big River), will read 'I Love You Madam President' for this year's New York Musical Theatre Festival. The show also features the talents of Jerry Coyle (Room Service), Ric Ryder (Blood Brothers), Christine Rowan and Elizabeth Polito (Beauty and the Beast) and is stage managed by Jessica Balvanz.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival announces the six Next Broadway Sensation semi-finalists for their third annual contest, formerly known as Broadway Idol. Moving on to round two will be Frances Bordlee, Shawna M. Hamic, Mike Harrison, Omar Lopez-Cepero, Jennifer Sánchez, Nesha Ward, and Jamaal Wilson.

'Twilight in Manchego' To Be Presented at NYMF

he New York Musical Theatre Festival, Laura Brandel and Patrice Miller have announced Broadway and R&B star Billy Porter to direct a cast that includes Tony-Award Winner Chuck Cooper (The Life, Caroline or Change), Natalie Venetia Belcon (Avenue Q, The Glorious Ones, TV's Johnny and the Sprites) and Adam Halpin (Glory Days) in the world premiere musical Twilight in Manchego. The show, with music, lyrics and book by Jonathan Larson Award Winner Matt Gould, will play six performances at the ATA Theater (314 W. 54th Street) September 25th - October 4th, 2007.
