Drury Lane to Kick Off 2017-18 Season with Kander & Ebb's CHICAGO

Drury Lane Theatre announces it will open its 2017-2018 season with Chicago, the first production of the show to be produced in the city of Chicago in more than three decades. Jeff Award Winning Artistic Director, William Osetek, will direct the iconic musical, based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and the script adaptation by David Thompson. Chicago runs March 30 - June 4, 2017 at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.

Drury Lane Theatre continues its 2016-2017 season with Ira Levin's popular murder mystery, Deathtrap, directed by Artistic Director William Osetek. Deathtrap runs June 9 - August 14, 2016 at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. The Press Opening is Thursday, June 16 at 8:00 p.m.

Drury Lane Theatre opens its 2016-2017 season with the World Premiere musical comedy Hazel, A Musical Maid in America, based on the character from the Saturday Evening Post comic strip by Ted Key and the 1960s TV comedy series starring Shirley Booth. Hazel features a book by Lissa Levin, music by Ron Abel, and lyrics by Chuck Steffan. This new musical is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee and Emmy Award winner Joshua Bergasse with musical direction by Roberta Duchak. Hazel runs March 31 - May 29, 2016 at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. The Press Opening is Wednesday, April 6 at 8:00 p.m.

Today in 1995, Smokey Joe's Cafe opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre) where it ran for 2036 performances. Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The Original Broadway cast recording, Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs Of Leiber And Stoller won a Grammy award in 1996. In revue format with no unifying theme the 39 songs are presented by various members of the cast in various combinations, with no dialogue. There are novelty songs ('Charlie Brown'), romantic ballads ('Spanish Harlem') and infectious melodies ('There Goes My Baby').

On January 21, guests gathered at Drury Lane Theatre for the Opening Night of their newest production, Bye Bye Birdie, directed and choreographed by Tammy Mader. With a cast led by Michelle Aravena as Rosie, Matt Crowle as Conrad's agent, Albert, and Jason Michael Evans as Conrad Birdie, audiences were treated to a throwback of the classic 1950's musical, brought to life again by this energetic and lively ensemble of 31.
