VANITIES: A NEW MUSICAL Cast Recording Gets December 15 Release

The original cast recording of 'Vanities: A New Musical' will be released on December 15. The recording is produced by Joel Moss, and will feature Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles, and Anneliese van der Pol. 'Vanities: A New Musical' is based on the original play 'Vanities' by Jack Heifner. Book by Jack Heifner; Music & Lyrics by David Kirshenbaum.

Adam Feldman Wins Re-election as Drama Critics' Circle President

Adam Feldman of Time Out New York has won his re-election as President of the Drama Critics' Circle. This will be Feldman's third term as President of the organization. In addition, the organization made an unprecedented move in accepting critic David Finkle as the first member who was inducted for his online writings.

BILLY ELLIOT, RUINED & More Win at Drama Critics' Circle Awards

Ruined, by Lynn Nottage, today won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2008-2009 season. The Best Musical award was given to Billy Elliot, music by Elton John, and book and lyrics by Lee Hall. The award for Best Foreign Play was given to Black Watch by Gregory Burke. The selections were made at the 74th annual voting meeting of the organization today at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan.

The American Theatre Wing has announced its newest episode of the popular 'Working in the Theater' series: 'For the Record: Inside Cast Albums.' In this episode, guests Ted Chapin (President and Executive Director of The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization), Kurt Deutsch (Sh-K-Boom/ Ghostlight Records), Brian Drutman (Decca Label Group) and Thomas Z. Shepard (Cast Album Producer) take us inside the world of producing cast albums.

Entertainment Weekly picked the best and worst of stage for 2008, the musical BILLY ELLIOT topped the list as best, musicals made a strong showing in general. Melissa Rose Bernardo, the stage editor for the magazine cast a wide net for her choices including BAM and Off-Broadway in addition to typical main stage fare.
