Sheffield Theatres to Premiere FLOWERS FOR MRS HARRIS Next Month

Next month, Sheffield Theatres stage the World Premiere of Flowers For Mrs Harris - an uplifting new musical based on the novel by Paul Gallico.  Written by Richard Taylor and Rachel Wagstaff, the production, onstage at the Crucible from Wednesday 18 May - Saturday 4 June, will be Artistic Director Daniel Evans' last for Sheffield Theatres.

Breaking News: Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber Will Lead LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES on Broadway This Fall

Tony Award winners Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber will return to Broadway this Fall in the Donmar Warehouse production of Les Liaisons Dangereusesby Christopher Hampton, directed by the Donmar's Artistic Director Josie Rourke. The production begins performances on Saturday, October 8, 2016 and will open on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Booth Theatre (222 W 45th St). This is a 15-week only engagement through Sunday, January 22, 2017.

West End's FUNNY GIRL Opens Previews, April 9

The West End transfer of Funny Girl, receives its first preview tomorrow night, 9 April 2016 - with opening night on 20 April, at the Savoy Theatre. Michael Mayer directs Sheridan Smith as Fanny Brice, Darius Campbell as Nicky Arnstein, Marilyn Cutts as Mrs Brice, Maurice Lane as Mr Keeney, Valda Aviks as Mrs Meeker, Gay Soper as Mrs Strakosh, Natasha J Barnes as Emma/Mrs Nadler, Bruce Montague as Florenz Ziegfeld, and Joel Montague as Eddie Ryan.                

Update: Imelda Staunton-Led GYPSY Still Circling a Broadway Run

The West End revival of Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton, which just took home four Olivier Awards on Sunday night, is still eying a Broadway run. According to the Wall Street Journal, a spokesperson for producers Michael Harrison and David Ian revealed that talks for a Broadway transfer are underway.

Olivier Awards 2016: Hits and Misses

As expected, the 40th anniversary Olivier Awards showered trophies on the sensational Gypsy. Imelda Staunton and Lara Pulver's performances and Mark Henderson's lighting were recognised, and the production took Best Musical Revival. But there were surprises elsewhere, with starry shows like Benedict Cumberbatch's Hamlet going home empty-handed, Nicole Kidman losing out in the Best Actress race, and an underdog win for Pat Kinevane and Fishamble's Silent at Soho Theatre - all welcome given concerns that changes to the Oliviers voting process might favour long-running West End shows and/or A-listers Here are some of the night's major hits and misses.

Take Five! Spend Your Tea Break with Imelda Staunton

Jonathan Kent's triumphant revival of GYPSY, starring Imelda Staunton as an indelible Momma Rose, leads the way at this Sunday's Olivier Awards with eight nominations. Staunton is hot favourite to pick up Best Actress in a Musical for her lauded performance, which fuelled hit runs at Chichester Festival Theatre and London's Savoy, as well as a BBC broadcast. Gypsy also scored Olivier nominations for Best Musical Revival, Kent's direction, Stephen Mear's choreography, Mark Henderson's lighting, and Lara Pulver, Dan Burton and Peter Davison in supporting roles.

Take Five! Spend Your Good Friday with Glenn Close

The great Glenn Close reprises the iconic role of Norma Desmond in SUNSET BOULEVARD in a semi-staged English National Opera production at London Coliseum from next week. Lonny Price directs the strictly limited run of 43 performances, which begins on April 1 and closes May 7. The cast also includes Michael Xavier, Siobhan Dillon, Fred Johanson, Anna Woodside, Emily Bull, Julian Forsyth, Mark Goldthorp, Fenton Gray, Haydn Oakley and James Paterson.

Official: Ben Richards Joins Beverley Knight in West End's THE BODYGUARD, July 15

Ben Richards will join previously announced Beverley Knight in the international hit musical The Bodyguard when it returns to the West End for a limited six month run in July this year.  Richards will play Frank Farmer, Rachel Marron's bodyguard, alongside Beverley Knight in the leading role of the Oscar-nominated superstar Marron.   Performances begin at the Dominion Theatre on 15 July 2016 for this strictly limited season to 7 January 2017.

BroadwayHD  just announced that theater lovers can stream eight-time Olivier nominated Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton on BroadwayHD.com. This Best Musical Revival nominee opened at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End on April 15, 2015.

Official: FUNNY GIRL with Sheridan Smith Extends Booking Into October

Due to unprecedented demand, the critically acclaimed production of Funny Girl, which is fast selling out its run, extends booking for a further 4 weeks until 8 October 2016. Tickets for the extension of Michael Mayer's "exhilarating embrace of a production - Independent" starring Olivier and BAFTA award-winning actress and "phenomenal talent - Independent" Sheridan Smith as Fanny Brice go on sale from 10am on 8 February.
