Thirty-five works on paper by some of Russia's most notable modern artists from the private collection of Marina and Nikolay Shchukin will open at The National Arts Club on May 19, 2014. From Primitivism to Propaganda: Russia's Modern Masters, curated by Matthew Drutt, showcases works by celebrated and less-known Russian artists including Natalia Goncharova, Mikhail Larionov, Rosalia Rabinovich, the Stenberg brothers, Nikolai Suetin, and Pavel Tchelitchew. Most of these works have never before been shown in the West. The exhibition is part of the 12th Annual Russian Heritage Month®, a celebration of events and exhibits highlighting Russian culture.
On Wednesday, March 12, violinist Philippe Quint was awarded the Ambassador of Arts Award at the 16th Anniversary Gala Banquet of the Gateways Organization celebrating The Brownstone Experience. The banquet, held in the Delegates Dining Room at the United Nations, was attended by distinguished elected officials, world business leaders, dignitaries and over 400 prominent guests, also honoring fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin and Virginie and Mark Cohen, CEOs of Stonehouse Capital Management. Unfortunately, Quint was not able to be present at the Award ceremony. On the way to the United Nations, Quint's taxi was hit by another vehicle running a red light and Quint had to be hospitalized. Fortunately there were no serious injuries and he is scheduled to appear next week with the Rhode Island Philharmonic.

The Eighth Annual Russian Heritage Festival began its month long celebration of Russian culture in New York on Sunday June 6 from 11am to 5pm with a free outdoor festival featuring Russian foods, arts, crafts, music and dance performances at Seaside/Asser Levy Park (corner of Ocean Parkway and Seabreeze Ave.) in Brooklyn. One of the highlights of the day will be a live performance by Tatiana Ovsienko, one of Russia's most popular pop stars. A popular, annual event for people of all ages, the Russian Heritage festival will feature performances by numerous youth groups in the New York metropolitan area, performing traditional music, song and dance and wearing traditional costumes showing the diverse heritage of countries such as Russia, Ukraine, and Armenia.
