Photo Coverage: Drama Critics Circle 2009-2010 Awards Ceremony

Yesterday evening, May 10, the Algonquin Hotel hosted the 75th Annual New York Drama Critics' Circle Award ceremony honoring the best of the 2009-2010 theatre season. This year's honorees included casts and creative teams of The Orphans' Home Cycle, Fences, Circle Mirror Transformation, The Aliens; Viola Davis, Annie Baker, and Hallie Foote. Presenters included Denzel Washington, who presented the Award for Sustained Achievement to his Fence's co-star Viola Davis, Tony Kushner and Marian Seldes.

The New York Drama Critics' Circle met on April 30, 2010, to determine the winners of its annual awards. The results were as follows:

Connecticut Repertory Theatre Opens Nutmeg Summer Series With RENT 5/27-6/6

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT), the professional producing arm of the Department of Dramatic Arts at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, will open its Nutmeg Summer Series with the rock musical, Rent, running May 27 through June 6 in the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre (Lower Jorgensen). This will be CRT's first full summer season since 2002.

DJ D-Nice Spins at Party Hosted by Lincoln Center 4/29

As part of its continuing mission to bring the arts into the communities of New York City, and to celebrate New York's rich ethnic and cultural diversity, the Young Patrons of Lincoln Center (YPLC) are hosting a dance party on Thursday, April 29 from 8:30 to 10:00 pm (Doors open at 7:30) at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, 1040 Grand Concourse. The Bronx's own DJ D-Nice will spin a special set for the event.

1st Throws Play Reading Series Presents All Dressed Up 4/26 at Gerald W. Lynch

The Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College presents the second staged reading in the First Throws Play Reading Series, Cesi Davidson's All Dressed Up, directed by Mary Hodges and featuring Lorna Haughton and Sadrina Renee, with stage directions read by Florence Kildare, on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 7pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College, 899 Tenth Avenue, NYC. Admission is FREE and reservations are not required.

ERS Benefit Announces $30 Balcony Seats

Elevator Repair Service (ERS) is hosting their spring benefit on Monday, May 3rd, 2010. The company is currently finishing the third play in a trilogy of critically acclaimed plays based on great American novels by William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Ernest Hemingway. This event will celebrate ERS's success with Frances McDormand (Burn after Reading, Fargo), Lili Taylor ('Six Feet Under'), Fred Armisen ('Saturday Night Live'), Frankie Faison ('The Wire'), and ERS company members in a one night only performance of loved, banned and mythologized American fiction. Authors include Edith Wharton, Willa Cather, and Edgar Allan Poe. Readings will be accompanied by ERS's unique signature sound design.

Reprise Records To Release AMERICAN IDIOT Cast Recording, 4/20

Reprise Records will release The Original Broadway Cast Recording of American Idiot on April 20, 2010, the same day the show will open at the St. James Theatre in New York City. The official album features the 24-member cast accompanied by Green Day, marking another incredible collaboration between the band and the musical. Based on Green Day's chart-topping 2004 album American Idiot, the musical and the cast recording include every song from American Idiot, as well as several songs from the band's GRAMMY® Award-winning current album 21st Century Breakdown.

The program will feature mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer singing Absynth, a futuristic monodrama made up of newly-commissioned electronic songs from composers Nico Muhly, Andrew Staniland, and others; Clint Borzoni's new one-act opera Margot Alone in the Light, based on a Ray Bradbury short story; and Dreams of Pure Spirit: Songs of Tom Cipullo with the composer at the piano. The show will be held on Friday, April 16 at 8pm at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood.

Lincoln Center Announces Midsummer Night Swing Schedule, Runs 6/29-7/17

Tickets are on sale now for Lincoln Center's 22nd season of Midsummer Night Swing which will take place every Tuesday through Saturday, June 29-July 17 (except July 13, which will be replaced with a night of dancing on Monday, July 12th). The program will take place in Swing's home, Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park, on West 62nd Street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues.
