BWW Interviews: TANNA FREDERICK on Train to Zakopane

Versatile actress Tanna Frederick, who played the quintessential Lizzie in The Rainmaker a couple of seasons back, is now performing in another Henry Jaglom production, his world premiere play The Train to Zakopane again at Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica. In our chat she talks about the challenges of playing Katia and other projects for stage and film.

BWW Reviews: DOHNANYI DOES DVORAK at Avery Fisher Hall

The only thing missing from the opening week of the New York Philharmonic's 'Dohnanyi/Dvorak' festival was Dohnanyi. The legendary conductor was laid out by a bad case of the flu, causing him to miss the first performance of the series. 32 year old Krzysztof Urbanski, the music director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, stood in for the 85 year old maestro and last week and did a fine job, but after a massive promotional campaign one can be sure the management breathed an equally massive sigh of relief when Dohnanyi returned last Saturday night to an enthusiastic New York welcome.

Mr. Pim Passes By, a 1919 comedy of manners and morals by British author A. A. Milne, will make its Nashville debut August 2-10, for five performances in the Dead Poet's Society Auditorium on the campus of Montgomery Bell Academy. Presented by Carrick Productions, Mr. Pim will play two weekends: today and Saturday, August 2-3, and August 9-10, at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, August 4, at 2 p.m.

Warner Bros Classic & Contemporary Gangster Films Come to Blu-ray Today

As part of the studio's 90th Anniversary celebration, eight of Warner Bros. Pictures' greatest gangster films - from Edward G. Robinson's 1931 classic Little Caesar to Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning masterpiece The Departed[i] -- will now be available in two Blu-ray sets today, May 21.

Nicolas Horvath Releases FRANZ LISZT Christus Album

French pianist Nicolas Horvath is heard in his recording debut with this fascinating solo piano version of Liszt's monumental oratorio Christus. This world premiere recording retraces the Life of Christ via a series of musical frescoes in which the composer seemingly runs through the entire history of music — from Gregorian chant through Romantic virtuosity to avant-garde expressionism. “I could not begin my recording career with anything better than a world premiere by Liszt,” Horvath told Piano Bleu, “I have admired the music and the life of Franz Liszt for so many years: his large generosity of spirit, a limitless curiosity … his music was a mirror of his time.” The new recording from Editions Hortus is available from Allegro Classical on May 14.
