The world premiere of THE WILDNESS: SKY-PONY'S ROCK FAIRY TALE, with text by Obie Award winner Kyle Jarrow and Lauren Worsham and songs by Kyle Jarrow, presented by Ars Nova in collaboration with The Play Company, plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement, tonight, February 16, through March 19, with an official opening night on Monday, February 29, 2016.

Williamstown Theatre Festival's annual Gala was just held at City Winery in New York City (155 Varick Street) last night, February 8, 2016. The evening  included cocktails, dinner, and live auction led by Charity Auctioneer Robbie Gordy of Christie's New York. Hosted by Jessica Hecht and David Hyde Pierce, the evening included special appearances and performances by: star of stage and screen Ana Gasteyer, Telly Leung (Broadway's Allegiance), Lindsay Mendez (Broadway's Wicked), New York's hottest new band Sky-Pony (led by Tony Award-nominated singer/actress Lauren Worsham and musician/writer Kyle Jarrow), and more. The evening will include cocktails, dinner, and live auction led by Charity Auctioneer Robbie Gordy of Christie's New York. Hosted by Jessica Hecht and David Hyde Pierce, the evening will include special appearances and performances by a slew of stars.

It seems ironic--to me at least--that New York's venerable City Opera would be returning to life at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater, just as the “Prototype: Opera/Theatre/Now” festival was finishing up its run at alternative venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Prototype “unleashed a powerful wave of opera-theatre and music-theatre from a new generation of classical and post-classical composers and librettists”--their words, not mine, but I won't dispute it--while City is doing a warhorse.

AMERICAN SHOWSTOPPERS - featuring Fred Barton & His Orchestra and starring a cast of today's best Broadway performers - will present "An Evening with Cole Porter" at Pace University's Schimmel Center in New York on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 PM and then Kingsborough Community College's Goldstein Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, March 5 at 8:00 PM.  The cast of outstanding Broadway performers includes Beth Leavel (Tony Award winner for The Drowsy Chaperone), Sean McGibbon, Paula Leggett Chase, Damon Kirsche, Karen Murphy and Jesse Luttrell in addition to the Scott Thompson Dancers. The show is produced, orchestrated, conducted and hosted by Fred Barton with direction and choreography by Scott Thompson.

Beth Morrison Projects (BMP) and HERE present the fourth annual PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now festival, running today, January 6, through January 17, 2016, in New York City.

New York City Premiere, Dog Days is a work of contemporary opera-theatre that investigates the psychology of a working class American family pitted against a not-so-distant-future wartime scenario. Exploring the ultimate struggle of humanity—stuck between nature's indifference and society's barely restrained brutality—Dog Days asks: is it madness, delusion, or sheer animal instinct that guides us through severely trying times? Where is the line between animal and human? At what point must we give into our animal instincts merely to survive?

2016 at Ars Nova (Jason Eagan, Artistic Director; Renee Blinkwolt, Managing Director) will include two Off-Broadway productions: the world premiere of The Wildness, Sky-Pony's Rock Fairy Tale directed by Tony-nominee Sam Buntrock, written by and featuring Brooklyn-based band Sky-Pony, fronted by Lauren Worsham (Drama Desk Award winner and Tony nominee) with songs penned by Kyle Jarrow (Obie Award winner) and presented in collaboration with The Play Company; and the New York premiere of Underground Railroad Game created and performed by Jennifer Kidwell and Scott Sheppard in association with Lightning Rod Special; SHOWGASM XXL, a one-night-only 'gasm so big it won't fit in the Ars Nova building, hosted by John Early and featuring Ars Nova All Stars as well as celebrity guests to be announced; and ANT Fest, a new adventure every night with the next wave of Ars Nova's breakthrough artists during four nonstop weeks of wild comedy, music and theater mash-ups.

Today, December 4, indie-pop band Sky-Pony (fronted by Tony nominee Lauren Worsham) will hit the stage at Brooklyn's Knitting Factory to celebrate the release of their debut LP Beautiful Monster - which drops the same day from Knitting Factory Records.
