Ars Nova has announced this year's New Year's Eve Spectacular, the grand finale to its 10th Anniversary year.
On Sunday, September 22 New Georges held their BIG Benefit at Seamen's House, a private townhouse in Chelsea. The fundraiser featured a special performance by Eisa Davis and short plays and songs written specifically for the event by Laura Eason, Boo Killebrew, Julie Kramer, Rachel Peters and Charise Castro Smith, featuring Heidi Schreck, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Amy Wilson, Stephanie Wright Thompson, Eric Clem and others. At a benefit event held for New Georges on Sunday, September 22, Producing Artistic Director Susan Bernfield and board member Michael Osso announced a new program at New Georges, The Audrey Residencies, and the artists and projects chosen for 2013-14, the program's inaugural year. Sunday's event also featured the premiere showing of a video about New Georges produced by tdf for tdfSTAGES' Meet the Theatre series and directed by Mark Blankenship, tdf's online content editor, to be released in early November.

You are most definitely out of place, but by no means out of touch, even though the temptation for her may have been to run and hide. Judy's escape? She planted herself in front of the TV, watched sitcoms...and learned. And in the 70s, with All in the Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Brady Bunch, The Partidge Family, Welcome Back, Kotter, to name but a few, what a fun education it was! Now at the Geffen Playhouse, Judy Gold plays out her award-winning The Judy Show extended through August 18, appropriately subtitled My life as a sitcom.

New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Producing Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Deputy Artistic Director; Jaynie Saunders Tiller, Managing Director) will present the World Premiere of Lynn Rosen's (Apple Cove with Women's Project) GOLDOR $ MYTHYKA: A HERO IS BORN directed by Shana Gold (Food and Fadwa with New York Theatre Workshop) April 3-27 at The New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street between Greenwich and Washington). Casting will be announced on Friday, February 22. Tickets will go on sale Friday, March 1.
Ann Bannon, a puesdonym for Ann Weldy, wrote six lesbian themed pulp novels from 1957 to 1962. These novels are collectively known as The Beebo Brinker Chronicles, and have experienced several renaissances of rediscovery. The most recent was when Cleis Press rereleased the series from 2001 to 2003 with newly penned autobiographical forwards. The Hourglass Group presented the World Premiere of Kate Moira Ryan and Linda S. Chapman's play adaptation of the series in 2007. The writers used material from the second, third, and fourth novels (I Am a Woman, Women in the Shadows, and Journey to a Woman) to construct their narrative. THE BEEBO BRINKER CHONICLES found success both Off-Off-Broadway and Off-Broadway, and was awarded the GLAAD Media Award for "fair, accurate, and inclusive" character portrayals of gay and lesbian people.

The production is a Baltimore premiere and the second offering of the Strand 2012-13 Season, under the leadership of Artistic Director Rain Pryor. It runs tonight, November 1-17.
