Four talented emerging playwrights of color - members of the 2015 INKtank Playwrights Lab - will unveil their exciting new works when Rising Circle Theater Collective presents its 6th annual PlayRISE Festival, a series of staged readings featuring two-time Tony Award nominee Mary Testa (On the Town, 42nd Street), Henry Yuk (Awake & Sing), Tia James (The Public's The Merchant of Venice), and Frankie J. Alvarez (HBO's "Looking"), February 25th to 28th in the Penthouse at Shetler Studios on W. 54th Street.

'Not Afraid' by Nora Sorena Casey is a dark comedy about Bets, a young woman who is obsessed with her death metal blog. When she gets a death threat, it catalyzes a series of disturbing encounters for both her and her housemate and best friend, Hunter, a callous law student. The two women argue about heavy metal, the U.S.S.R. and taco night -- and try not to die. The play is at once funny, sad and devastating. PowerOut presents the work's world premiere October 19 to November 4 at Under St. Marks, 94 St. Marks Place. Ben Ferber directs.
MCC THEATER has announced the 2014 PlayLabs reading series, which will feature new works in development by playwrights Stephen Belber, John Pollono, and Will Snider. "Friends" alum David Schwimmer, currently represented off-Broadway with his direction of the critically-acclaimed hit Sex with Strangers, is set to direct Belber's Shut Up When You Talk to Me. Pollono's Lost Girls will be directed by MCC alum Jo Bonney, who also directed MCC's hit production of Pollono's Small Engine Repair. Snider's How to Use a Knife will be helmed by Kareem Fahmy. Readings will be held on September 15th, September 29th, and October 6th, respectively, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street). All readings are at 7pm. Rising Circle Theater Collective kicks off its 2013-14 Season with The Refinery today, a workshop production of Matthew Paul Olmos' new play 'nobody rides a locomotive no'mo', directed by Mariana Carreno King. The cast includes Dacyl Acevedo (Will work for Food), Bernardo Cubria (so go the ghosts of mexico), Heather Velazquez (Pinkolandia).
