Berkeley Playhouse closes its 2011-12 main stage season with a delicious adaptation of Roald Dahl's WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. Berkeley Playhouse founding Artistic Director Elizabeth McKoy helms this musical treat, based on Roald Dahl's stylish children's story about the world famous candy man, starring noted Bay Area singer/songwriter, musician, and recording artist Vernon Bush in the title role. Roald Dahl'S WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY plays tonight, July 14 through August 19 at the Julia Morgan Theatre in Berkeley.

Patron Michael Morlan Conducts Austin Civic Orchestra

On June 9th, crowds gathered at Zilker Hillside Theater for a free performance from the Austin Civic Orchestra. "The History of the March" was the subject of the evening. Verdi and Beethoven were on the program. There was even a bit of John Williams and his "Raiders of the Lost Ark" anthem. A guest conductor was also slated to appear. However, who the guest conductor was would not be known until the end of the performance.

The Latino spirit is alive in New Harlem Arts Theatre's upcoming production of 'Sweet Charity,' directed by Julio Agustin, to be presented July 26 to August 19 at CCNY's Aaron Davis Hall, 135th Street and Convent Ave. The characters of the classic sixties musical will be re-envisioned to reflect the changing roles of Latinos in our society while the traditional music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon will be preserved. The 1966 Broadway tuner was originally conceived, staged and choreographed by Bob Fosse. Director Julio Agustin has tapped choreographer Lainie Munro for the job of nestling his radical new concept into Fosse's formative jazz dances.

Symfinity, an alternative rock band fused with classical orchestral music have announced the release of their debut album, Intangible Dreams. The album is spearheaded by composer/songwriter, Seann Branchfield, who writes and arranges a collection of songs ranging from gothic metal to folk ballads with special emphasis on flute and piano as promininent melodic instruments. Branchfield's primary inspirations for the music on Intangible Dreams are the bands Nightwish and Trans-Siberian Orchestra as well as composer John Williams.
