'Reflections' Florida Studio Theatre Celebrates the Lively Sounds of the 60s and 70s

In 1960, President Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Act that established federal investigation of local voter registration polls. In 1961, our country went to war in Vietnam. In 1962, the Berlin Wall was erected. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Throughout these heavy flames of change and adversity, the beat went on. Music rose out of the flames into a lively, catchy, vocal sound that united a nation during turmoil.

Florida Studio Theatre Opens its second cabaret performance in the 2009-2010 Season. Reflections was developed at FST by Richard Hopkins, Rebecca Langford and Jim Prosser. Soul infused with pop cross-over appeal in the 60s and 70s created a fresh new sound that turned out unforgettable chart toppers.

Mel Brooks, Dave Brubeck, Grace Bumbry, Robert De Niro and Bruce Springsteen were the honorees for this year's Kennedy Center Honors and eminent artist friends and peers of this year's five honorees converged in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 6 to present entertaining and heartfelt tributes at THE 32ND ANNUAL KENNEDY CENTER HONORS, an entertainment special that was broadcast Tuesday, Dec. 29 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, with Caroline Kennedy as host for the seventh consecutive year.

Original D.C. Cast Reflects on the RAGTIME Experience

For the seven Washington-Baltimore based members of the RAGTIME cast who originated the production at the Kennedy Center and remained a part of its transfer to Broadway, the show's closing is bittersweet. If there is one person who thinks his Kennedy Center honor is merited it is Mel Brooks himself. Said the funny-man in a recent interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette of his recognition,'I agree 100 percent...I am a national treasure, I SHOULD be celebrated. And I hope against hope that you won't find my award on eBay, because you never know...You run out of cash and wherewithal ...'

RAGTIME Strives to Combat Viral Closing Rumors

Earlier this month, various unconfirmed reports surfaced that the Broadway production of 'Ragtime' was scheduled to close in January. Actor Bobby Steggert who plays Mother's Younger Brother in the musical revival fields regular questions and messages of support from fans on the show's supposed demise. Yet despite slow ticket sales, no closing date has been posted and a marketing strategy is in place for January, as reported in the New York Times.
