For 20 years, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts has brought the best of Broadway to South Florida and now adds to this tradition with the world premiere of Cirque Dreams Broadway, featuring Linda Eder and Marc Kudisch, directed by Neil Goldberg, Thursday, March 24 at 8 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Five students from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will perform February 27 (Sunday), at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The performance is part of the center's Conservatory Project, a weeklong concert series showcasing artists from America's leading music schools.

The cast and creative team of Shear Madness arrived in Sarasota this week to begin rehearsals at Florida Studio Theatre. Shear Madness opens February 23 for a limited two-week engagement. The production returns to the Gompertz stage after it ran for nine sold-out weeks last season.

On Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 8:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Opera House, the Kennedy Center will present its 19th annual Kennedy Center Spring Gala. Titled Michael Kaiser at the Kennedy Center: A Celebration of Ten Years, the event will be hosted by Smokey Robinson and will feature a selection of performers who have worked with Kaiser over the years, including Joshua Bell, Barbara Cook, Renée Fleming, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marcelo Gomes and Paloma Herrera of American Ballet Theatre, members of New York City Ballet, and the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director Christoph Eschenbach. The evening will be co-chaired by Adrienne Arsht, Betsy DeVos, Alma Gildenhorn, Helen Henderson, Ann Jordan, Alma Powell, Catherine B. Reynolds, and Vicki Sant.

At the Van Wezel Foundation's 10th annual Gala last evening, the Honorable Congressman, Vern Buchanan presented Mary Bensel, Executive Director of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, a congressional proclamation in honor of her service and leadership of the Hall and in support of the educational programs and community engagement activities of the Hall. The gala and the show, which featured Dionne Warwick, were sell outs. Congressman Buchanan stated that the Van Wezel is a driving force in Sarasota's vibrant art scene, which is a major economic driver for the area.
