The performances also include Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments (1947 revision) and John Adams's Violin Concerto featuring violinist Leila Josefowicz.

Following the startling success of LumenoCity last summer, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is expanding this groundbreaking free concert experience for the community in Cincinnati's Washington Park on August 1, 2 and 3, 2014, by adding a third performance, and presenting an all-new visual and musical program. Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival will present a concert open to the public for the first time in New York on Tuesday evening, April 8, 2014 at 7:45 p.m. at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Cary Hall, 450 West 37th Street, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues. A special orchestra-the Cape Cod Gala Orchestra, conducted by Liam Burke-has been assembled for this occasion. Noted WQXR radio announcer Jeff Spurgeon will host the evening and Nancy B. Barry, First President of the Festival, as well as Honorary Artistic Chair Charles Hamlen, V.P. of Orchestra of St. Luke's and Co-Founder of IMG Artists, will be on hand for the event.

Warner Classics has signed the UK-based Aurora Orchestra for a three-album recording contract. The first album, due out in Autumn 2014, will be the American-themed Road Trip and will feature the music of John Adams, Charles Ives and Aaron Copland, as well as three newly-commissioned song arrangements by composer Nico Muhly – two traditional songs along with Paul Simon's Hearts and Bones.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and Nielsen's Helios Overture at the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 26, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. This will be the 23rd Annual Free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City. Alan Gilbert has led the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert each year since becoming Music Director in the 2009-10 season. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance; ticket distribution will begin at 6:00 p.m. The audio of the performance will be broadcast onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting. The program will be presented without intermission.

This spring, the current musicians of Ensemble ACJW conclude their two-year fellowship program with several exciting performances of classical and contemporary music at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall and Weill Recital Hall as well as in a variety of venues throughout New York City. In fall 2014, a group of new musicians will join the ensemble, which not only features outstanding performances, but also emphasizes community engagement and music education experience in New York City public schools.

Today in 1969, 1776 opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rogers Theatre), where it ran for 1217 performances. 1776 is a musical with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone. The story is based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It focuses on, and partly fictionalizes, the efforts of John Adams to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence and to sign the document. The production was nominated for five Tony Awards and won three, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical was made into a film of the same name in 1972 and was revived on Broadway in 1997.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), heralded around the globe for its exceptional artistry and wide ranging repertoire, showcases 'Minimalist Masterworks,' featuring works by celebrated American composers Steve Reich and David Lang, on Sunday, April 6, 2014, 7 pm, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The concert opens with Perotin's Sederunt principes featuring tenor soloists Pablo Cora, Michael Lichtenauer and Shawn Kirchner. The Chorale then reprises Reich's You Are (Variations), commissioned, premiered and recorded by the Chorale in 2004 (Nonesuch), and Lang's Pulitzer Prize-winning the little match girl passion, of which LAMC presented an extended choral version last season hailed as 'a performance to remember' (Outwest Arts). ListenUp!, a pre-concert talk with Gershon and KUSC's Alan Chapman, is slated for 6 pm, in BP Hall. The concert is part of the second installment of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's citywide, multi-disciplinary Minimalist Jukebox Festival, curated by composer John Adams.

Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic will continue The Nielsen Project-the Philharmonic's multi-year focus on Danish composer Carl Nielsen launched in the 2010-11 season-with performances of Nielsen'sHelios Overture and Symphony No. 1, both in their first-ever performances at the Philharmonic, and Symphony No. 4, tonight, March 12, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m. The works will be recorded for later release on Denmark's Dacapo label.
