Public Theater Presents Three Summer ShakeUp Days This Summer

For the sixth consecutive year, The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) will present Summer ShakeUp, a special workshop on Shakespeare for New York City students, presented for free as a part of The Public Theater's Shakespeare Initiative.

Kristoffer Diaz Awarded Gail Merrifield Papp Fellowship

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director, Joey Parnes) is proud to announce that acclaimed playwright Kristoffer Diaz will be the first recipient of The Gail Merrifield Papp Fellowship. The Fellowship, announced at The Public Theater's Gala on Monday night which honored Gail Merrifield Papp for her lifelong service and dedication to The Public Theater, was created to support a playwright every season.

Gail Papp & Time Warner to be Honored at Public Theater Gala, 6/20

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) announced today that the 2011 Summer Gala will honor Gail Merrifield Papp and Time Warner Inc. for their dedication and commitment to The Public Theater. The Gala will be held on Monday, June 20 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park and will include dinner under the stars, a performance of All's Well That Ends Well, and a cast party immediately following the performance. The benefit event is being chaired by Public Theater Board Members Hilary Feshbach, Liev Schreiber, and Sam Waterston.

Final Week of Performances Begin for The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide

Tony Kushner's THE INTELLIGENT HOMOSEXUAL'S GUIDE TO CAPITALISM AND SOCIALISM WITH A KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES presented by The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) and Signature Theatre Company (Founding Artistic Director James Houghton; Executive Director Erika Mallin) in association with the Guthrie Theater (Joe Dowling, Director) will begin its final week of performances on Tuesday, June 7.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) announced complete casting today for the 2011 Shakespeare in the Park summer season featuring MEASURE FOR MEASURE, directed by David Esbjornson, and ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL, directed by Daniel Sullivan, running in repertory June 6 - July 30 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. MEASURE FOR MEASURE begins performances on Monday, June 6 and officially opens on Thursday, June 30. ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL begins performances on Saturday, June 11 and officially opens on Saturday, June 25. Tickets to both shows running in repertory are free and distributed the day of the performance. HAIR Comes to Fox Theatre, Closes 5/22

The 2009 Tony Award Winning Musical Revival HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is coming to Atlanta. HAIR will close at the Fox Theatre May 22, 2011 as part of the Broadway Across America - Atlanta 2010-2011 season.

The Public's THE HUMAN SCALE Plays Tel Aviv, 5/18 - 5/21

The Public Theater and 3-Legged Dog have been invited by Director General Noam Semel to perform their acclaimed production of THE HUMAN SCALE at The Cameri Theatre in Tel Aviv, Israel, making it the first American production at The Cameri in its 66-year history. Written and performed by Pulitzer Prize-winner Lawrence Wright and directed by Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, THE HUMAN SCALE will make its Israeli premiere on Wednesday, May 18 and run through Saturday, May 21 at Cameri Theatre 4, located at 18 Shaul Hamelech Boulevard.

The final show in the 2010-2011 Public LAB season, KNICKERBOCKER will run Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 29, with an official press opening on Thursday, May 19. Single tickets are on sale now; all tickets for Public LAB productions are $15.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) will continue its popular Shakespeare Salon Series this May. Following the success of last year's events, The Shakespeare Salon returns for two evenings this spring, with discussions featuring 2011 Shakespeare in the Park Directors Daniel Sullivan and David Esbjornson and moderated by Shakespeare Initiative Director Barry Edelstein. The Shakespeare Salons will be held on Wednesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. at BONDST Restaurant (6 Bond Street). Tickets are $25 and include a complimentary glass of wine. Tickets are on sale now to Public Theater Members and will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, April 28.

The Public Theater hostd the final Public Forum evening of the season, 'Tony Kushner and Oskar Eustis in Conversation,' last night, May 8. In his new play, The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, Kushner writes movingly about politics and family in America today-plus unions, real estate and love. Kushner and Eustis discussed these topics and more, with an introduction by special guest host Cynthia Nixon.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) will present post-show discussions following select performances of KNICKERBOCKER, written by Jonathan Marc Sherman and directed by Pippin Parker. The Public LAB Speaker Series for KNICKERBOCKER will be held following the Tuesday, May 17 and Tuesday, May 24 performances. Tickets are $15 for all performances of KNICKERBOCKER and include free admission to the post-show discussions.
