Paper Mill Playhouse, recipient of the 2016 Regional Theatre Tony Award, has just announced complete casting for Mel Brooks' award-winning musical The Producers, directed by Don Stephenson and choreographed by Bill Burns. The Producers features music and lyrics by Mel Brooks, a book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, and the original Broadway direction and choreography by Susan Stroman.

The Byrd Hoffman Water Mill Foundation celebrated its 23rd Annual Summer Benefit & Auction, a one-of-a-kind evening bringing together over 1,000 guests from the worlds of theater, art, performance, fashion, design, and society at The Watermill Center on Saturday, July 30. The event, entitled FADA: HOUSE OF MADNESS, featured new works by Watermill's International Summer Program participants that came from over 25 countries to create installations and performances throughout the eight and-a-half acre grounds. This year, The Watermill Center honored Madame Giancarla Berti.

OPERA America Welcomes New Chairman & Members to Board of Directors

 OPERA America, the national service organization for opera and the nation's leading champion for American opera, is pleased to announce that Timothy O'Leary, general director of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, has been elected the new chairman of OPERA America's board of directors. He has been involved with OPERA America since 2006, when he participated in Leadership Advance, one of the organization's professional development programs. He joined OPERA America's board in 2011. O'Leary was elected chairman at OPERA America's recent annual business meeting — held during Opera Conference 2016 in Montreal — where eight new members were also elected to the board and three current members were re-elected to three-year terms.

Kathleen Battle to Return to Metropolitan Opera in November

Legendary soprano Kathleen Battle, who starred in more than 220 Met performances over the course of her career, will make her first appearance at the Met in more than 20 years with the recital Kathleen Battle: Underground Railroad – A Spiritual Journey on Sunday, November 13 at 4 p.m. Battle will sing a recital of spirituals inspired by the journey to freedom along the Underground Railroad, the 19th-century network of safe houses that allowed African-Americans to escape from slavery. She will be joined by pianist Joel Martin and by a choir under the direction of James Davis, Jr., Director of Music Ministries and Fine Arts at Harlem's famous Abyssinian Baptist Church.

Classical Roots is an important Detroit Symphony Orchestra tradition.  For 37 years, the Classical Roots concert has celebrated African-American contributions to classical music.  Tonight, guest conductor Roderick Cox leads NEA Jazz Master Branford Marsalis and soprano Laquita Mitchell in paying tribute to Jessye Norman and the late Dr. Silas Norman Jr, with a program featuring Gershwin, Marsalis' own composition, and more.

Paper Mill Playhouse has announced casting for its spring musical, Pump Boys and Dinettes. This Tony Award nominee features James Barry (Jim), Gabe Bowling (Jackson), Julie Foldesi (Prudie), Jason Ostrowski (L.M.), Alysha Umphress (Rhetta) and Sam Weber (Eddie).  Pump Boys and Dinettes is conceived and written by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann. Pump Boys and Dinettes will be directed by John Foley with choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter. Pump Boys and Dinettes will run eight times a week at the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from April 6 through May 1, 2016. The official press opening night is Sunday, April 10, at 7:00pm.
