Wells Fargo presented the evening Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Skirball Cultural Center's new Guerin Pavilion/Herscher Hall in Los Angeles which was reported by event producer Luke Yankee to have raised $300,000. As a pre-cursor to the Actors Fund's highly anticipated and recently record-breaking successful TONY Awards party, the organization that has been meeting the various needs of those within the field of entertainment, gathered to pay homage to the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare and arguably the first true star of the American theatre - Edwin Forrest.
There may not have been 76 trombones, but Florence Henderson and Constantine Maroulis did excellent impersonations of librarian Marian Paroo and Harold Hill of 'The Music Man' fame, as they lead a 28 piece marching Broadway band into the Skirball Cultural Center in the new Guerin Pavilion/Herscher Hall to begin an evening of co-hosting for the Actors Fund's 18th Annual Tony Awards® Party. Kander & Ebb's THE ACT, featuring Anna Chlumsky, Tony winners Randy Graff and Cady Huffman, and more, will play 54 Below in a concert version, continuing tonight April 4 (8 and 11 p.m.). The songs of the show-which originally played Broadway in 1977 with Liza Minnelli as the lead-take place in a nightclub, so it's only fitting this one-night-only event will take place in the swankiest nightclub in town!
On Saturday, March 8 (2pm & 7:30pm) the Scripps Research Institute Auditorium will host a special concert performance of the the Maltby and Shire musical Baby, benefitting Miracle Babies. The special event will feature original Broadway cast member Liz Callaway, along with Richard Kind, Ilene Graff, Douglas Sills, Kerry O'Malley, Thomas C.
