TCG Announces 9th Round Of New Generations Program Recipients

Thirteen theatres (13) theatres and ten (10) individuals have been selected to participate in the ninth round of the New Generations Program, a grant initiative cooperatively designed by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Theatre Communications Group (TCG). In nine rounds of the program, over $12.5 million in grants have been awarded to over 200 theatres in support of three grant objectives.

Best-Selling Author Larry Tye to Speak After 'Fences' on Sept. 20 at Huntington Stage

In conjunction with the Huntington Theatre Company?s production of August Wilson?s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play about a former Negro Baseball Leagues star whose rise from the Leagues hit the ceiling of racial prejudice, New York Times best-selling author of Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend Larry Tye will speak at the post-show Humanities Forum on Sunday, September 20.

Beasley, Dirden & More Star, Leon Directs Huntington Theatre's FENCES 9/11-10/11, Opens 9/16

The Huntington Theatre Company opens its 28th season - a season of American stories - with August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Fences, the sixth chapter of his groundbreaking ten-play cycle about the 20th century African-American experience. Kenny Leon (Radio Golf, Gem of the Ocean, A Raisin in the Sun), acclaimed director and Wilson's final collaborator before his death, returns to the Huntington to helm the production, which stars John Beasley (Two Trains Running, Jitney, 'Everwood').

Following his sold-out Huntington Theatre production of Brendan, where he recounts an Irish immigrant's voyage to US citizenship, and his off-Broadway smash hit starring Campbell Scott as the Midwestern journalist August Early in The Atheist, Elliot Norton Award-winner Ronan Noone continues his exploration of the American psyche in Little Black Dress.

The Caretaker to Run Oct. 1 - Nov. 1 at Central Square Theater

When an elderly tramp is given lodging in the derelict home of two brothers, the ensuing relationships and shifting alliances intensify with hilarious and unsettling consequences in Harold Pinter?s great psychological drama, The Caretaker. Featuring John Kuntz as Aston, Michael Balcanoff as Davies, and Joe Lanza as Mick and directed by Daniel Gidron, The Nora Theatre Company presents The Caretaker from Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, November 1 at Central Square Theater. The Press Opening is set for Sunday, October 4 at 2 PM.

Yale Rep Opens 2009-2010 Season With THE MASTER BUILDER 9/18-10/10

Yale Repertory Theatre (James Bundy, Artistic Director; Victoria Nolan, Managing Director) opens its 2009-2010 season with THE MASTER BUILDER by Henrik Ibsen, translated by Paul Walsh, directed by Evan Yionoulis at the University Theatre (222 York Street), September 18-October 10. Opening night is Thursday, September 24.

Black Box Theatre Presents THE CREATURE 10/23 - 11/7

Black Box Theatre presents a one-of-a-kind Halloween experience with the World Premiere of THE CREATURE by Trevor Allen. Rob Melrose directs this new play featuring James Carpenter* (The Creature), Gabriel Marin* (Victor Frankenstein), and Garth Petal (Captain Walton). The design team includes Cassandra Carpenter (costumes) and Cliff Caruthers, who has created an original soundscape for the production. THE CREATURE plays October 23 through November 7 (Press opening: Sunday, October 25) at Thick House (1695 18th St., between Carolina & Arkansas) in San Francisco. In conjunction with Fences, the opening production in its 2009-2010 Season of American Stories, the Huntington Theatre Company partners with Roxbury Community College to present August Wilson's Legacy, a celebration of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright's work and a discussion with acclaimed Wilson director Kenny Leon and a diverse panel of local artists who will look ahead to the next generation.
