The sparkling new high-tech production of the Tony and Academy Award winning musical DREAMGIRLS will electrify audiences in Thousand Oaks, tonight, January 15-January 20, 2013, at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

A sparkling new high-tech production of the Tony and Academy Award-winning musical 'Dreamgirls' is coming to the Gallo Center for the Arts for five performances today through Sunday, January 11 -13.

According to an Equity casting notice, the revised version of the show will include some new characters- 'Auntie/Loretta' and 'Sir/Todd Browning.' While the latter seems to be a similar to 'The Boss,' who sang the opening song in the original production, the other is described as 'the woman who saved the twins from abandonment but began to display them as curiosities for money.' Additional new characters will include a Texas lawyer named 'Martin Arnold,' and a vaudeville performer named 'Ray.'

The lead roles of conjoined twins Violet and Daisy Hilton in the musical 'Side Show' are certainly among the most challenging in Broadway history. Along with performing the rewarding score, the two actresses must simulate their unfortunate 'Siamese twins' connection without gimmicks, because the show includes dream sequences in which they separate. They are literally joined at the hip but must rely solely upon practice-makes-perfect closeness.

Pop Up Playhouse, Abingdon Theatre's reading series for family audiences, continues in 2013 with SMALL FISH, a new puppet operetta, today, January 5, at 11 a.m. at Abingdon Theatre Company, 312 West 36th Street, 1st floor, between 8th and 9th Avenues. SMALL FISH features music by Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls, The Tap Dance Kid); libretto and puppets by Susan J. Vitucci; direction by Jules Ochoa (How I Fell in Love); and musical direction by Ben Krauss.

Given the incredible talent in this town and the large number of daring, courageous theater groups in the Austin area, here are my picks for 13 musicals that I'd love to see produced in the 2013-2014 season.

Today we are talking to a tremendously talented triple-threat star all about her many recent and upcoming endeavors, including the forthcoming feature films ADDICTED, 1982 and THE LAST LETTER, as well as the pilot for a new TV series, GUILTY, and, of course, her debut solo album project - the magnetic and beautiful Sharon Leal. In addition to discussing many aspects of her films to date and her starry assortment of co-stars and collaborators on them - Jennifer Hudson, Bill Condon, Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson, Pam Grier, Chris Brown, McG and Cuba Gooding, Jr. included - Leal and I also discuss her theatrically-attuned work thus far in her career, having appeared on Broadway in RENT, as well as in starring in BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY, regional work and in a prominent featured role as part of the big screen film adaptation of DREAMGIRLS. La Jolla Playhouse announces two additional productions for its 2013/2014 season. Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley (Glengarry Glen Ross, Memphis) will direct His Girl Friday, John Guare's (Six Degrees of Separation, The House of Blue Leaves) acclaimed adaptation of the Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur play The Front Page and the Howard Hawks film His Girl Friday, with screenplay by Charles Lederer, produced by Columbia Pictures. The production will kick off the season in June/July in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.

Broadway legend Andrea McArdle has two new albums set for release on Broadway Records. The first, '70s and Sunny: Live At 54 BELOW', was recorded during her triumphant debut at the new Broadway hotspot 54 BELOW and will be released today, December 11, 2012. The second recording, 'Calendar Dream', is an exciting new project that teams Andrea up with a stellar array of Broadway's most awarded writers to journey though a year of a woman's life.
